Ten hours of birding today in this fantastic vehicle. What could be better?

Fabulous day of birds, butterflies, & Belizean skies with our favorite local guide. Cave canoeing this afternoon and now relaxing with a drink while we watch the bats fly before we sit down for dinner. Macal River is an ever-changing delight.

Some pictures from Saturday’s market day in San Ignacio, Belize. Every vegetable, fruit, herb, or spice you could want. Eggs (chicken & duck) and fresh cheeses from the large Mennonite community. A row of butchers behind screened walls to keep the flies at bay. And stall after stall of secondhand

I guess since I'm still home, I'll post a #bird photo!
In 2026, I hope we all can soar above life's turbulent waves.

Well drat. I should be on a plane right now but we were awakened in the wee hours with flight cancellation notices. We’re now re-booked on a red-eye getting to Belize 13 hours later. Hopefully it’s smooth sailing from here on out.

I choose this, although sanctity itself is a concept that I'm uncomfortable with.

After today, my BOTD will be on hiatus until mid-January as I try to find birds in Belize. Wishing everyone a 2026 that brings us good health, strong communities, quiet joys, and the changes we yearn for.

#Bird of the Day: Double-crested Cormorant (DCCO)
In November when I took these photos, the DCCO didn’t yet have double crests, but year-round they sport these fantastic turquoise eyes & golden throats. The nuptial crests in breeding adults are long feathers that grow on each side of the head giving

Some local chucklehead set off big booming fireworks at 3am and again at 330. Cats freaked out anew, poor things. I just don’t see the appeal of waking up the entire neighborhood! They only get away with it under cover of darkness!

Denver airport also. Measles spreads by airborne & surface-contaminated droplets from coughs & sneezes of infected persons. So infectious that 9/10 unvaccinated people nearby can get it; it spreads even before symptoms appear.

2000+ US cases in 2025. Who'll to take my bet that 2026 will be higher?

What a great set of travel memories I have from 2025. Kicked it off with a fabulous trip to Panama in February, a trek to Oregon's Malheur basin in April with my #birding ladies, a family jaunt to Seattle & Leavenworth, Washington, in May, Ashland for plays, food, and friends in September, & finally
