An evolution of tiny pies! Here on the fourth try they’re looking much better

These blueberry mini pies are not pretty, but they are delicious. It’s all I can do not to eat four of them right now.

These go by a lot of different names, but I call them Five Layer Bars. Made them for my D&D group last night, and I am quite pleased with the results.

Tonight’s adventure: flourless chocolate cake (using the recipe from King Arthur)

Today’s project: tiny chocolate pecan pies. Confession: I used store-bought mini pie shells. Still delicious.

Looking for fun, funny, sexy escapism in These Trying Times? Kimberly Lemming’s Mead Mishaps series is full of fated mates, sexy demons, and Black female leads who are equal parts smart, hilarious, hot, and charming. I tore through all three pretty fast because I was having such a good time.

We’re on round five of focaccia now, and I think I’m getting the hang of making sure the dough is properly hydrated. Used AP flour instead of bread flour based on my internet research, and that seems to have been a good move.

Just finished with The Mimicking of Known Successes, which is both sci-fi and classic gas lamp mystery all at once. The world-building is fascinating (if hard to visualize), and I loved the characters. Also, space lesbians.

Oh, you voted Republican because you wanted to save babies? USAID saves babies, you absolute fuckwit. Our health care agencies save babies. Birth control and comprehensive sex ed and social programs that serve mothers and children save babies. You made the baby-killingest vote you possibly could.

Elon Musk's mother moved to South Africa in the year Apartheid was created, and she and Elon left the year it ended. The last Apartheid Prime Minister, a man who refused to testify at the Truth and Reconciliation Committee, was a family friend who stayed at their home. This is not a crazy theory.
What’s his beef against USAID in particu….oh. Wow.

Making chocolate peanut butter chip cookies for the potluck at the local Unitarian church. I haven’t voluntarily set foot in a church in years, but their service today is centered on social justice action, so here we go.

The new regime's racism just helped inspire what I predict will be the Blackity Blackest Black History Month in a while.

Reposting this photo to commemorate the festivities.

Also, a whole mood.

Do Not Comply In Advance: bossy, already a cliche, implies permission to comply later

Fuck You, Make Me: leads by example, directs yelling at opposition instead of allies, easy to chant at a protest or put on a banner

Are these homemade croutons ever going to see a salad? I mean, maybe, but we’re going to eat more than half of them as snacks.

The yield of a day of project cooking: fettuccine with marinara, grilled chicken, and focaccia — everything from scratch!

I like Wallace Stevens' writing better, but honestly, that time he came for Ernest Hemingway and got his lights punched out? Dude kinda had it coming. He was good on the Supreme Fiction, but apparently missed out on the Supreme Non-Fiction of "talk shit, get hit." #poetry

This really highlights the foundational importance of The Bluesky Way (“immediately block anybody who says anything even remotely unchill to you or to anybody you like”)
Bluesky has been flooded with automated reply bots - they'll offer a sort of confrontational opinion as a reply. They're pretty convincing and we all need to train ourselves to not reflexively reply to all responses until we check

Dead giveaway is new acct, few followers + original posts

Just finished with the last of Becky Chambers’ Wayfarers series, and I wish it weren’t over. These books are cozy sci-fi at its best, with charming characters and thorough, interesting world-building. Highly recommend for anyone seeking a bit of escape.

Previously, my position had been “I won’t consume anything new Gaiman makes, but I’m keeping my old stuff.” Based on the latest article, I have moved to “all the Gaiman is coming off my shelves because I don’t think I could ever enjoy it again.”
