No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...
Gladys Mae West obituary: mathematician who pioneered GPS technology
She made key contributions to US cold-war science despite facing huge barriers as a Black woman.

The depth of his hate for disabled people is and always has been breathtaking. It’s born of an arrogance I’ve rarely seen-he believes that he is some kind of ubermensch, and the only way he could ever become disabled is if some insidious conspiracy did it to him.

it’s so wild when you read Black theorists all throughout the 1900s literally predicting all of this… you cannot maintain a white supremacist, patriarchal state without those same genocidal logics being visited on its own people… it’s only a matter of time.

Honestly, I think the first thing Democrats should do is remind Americans that DHS and ICE didn't even exist until 2003. It's not like it's a long standing institution that must be preserved. It was created in the wake of 9/11 to combat terrorism and it's exceeded its mandate. We don't need it.
