So the punchline emotional decision in ACoTaR hinges on uhhh a trolley problem more or less and it reminded me of this Peter Watts (of Blindsight fame) short story I read recently about being a cyborg

I don't know why the kindle app shares what other people highlight but I guess somebody eventually is going to see that I made one highlight in ACoTaR and it wasn't one of the sexy bits or the instagram quotable bits but just a completely banal five-word tuple in the middle of a sentence.

So legit I was gonna make a comment that ferengi sounds like the farsi word for foreign (farangi) and decided to check and lo and behold

There's basically no way to use the word "female" in fiction that I won't immediately hotswap a Ferengi into whoever is delivering that line. Sorry folks!

So the fairies have just provided a cup of hot chocolate, something Feyre is familiar enough with as a basically illiterate peasant to name, and now I'm stuck on if and how long ago the Columbian Exchange happened in this grim fairy setting because I'm a horrible old man
December 27, 2025 at 7:28 PM
"A large wolf with a gray coat" oh right okay cool that clarifies things no doubt if Feyre had paused and thought for a moment she'd have realized that something was off about a WOLF THAT WAS GRAY

A GRAY WOLF, AS IT WERE

okay here is my first thought on A Court of Thorns and Roses; if you're going to enforce the magical death penalty on somebody for killing a fairy there has to be some kind of hunting colors rules or something. "Murking a dude disguised as, and indistinguishable from, a monstrous wolf" is FAIR PLAY

Reading a young adult fantasy and, so, the princess has been betrayed by her lady-in-waiting and is hiding as a peasant, but the problem is that her peasant life appears to rip shit and the first few chapters were about how she hated being a princess, so, I'm fuzzy on the need for conflict.

And Tiny Tim, who did NOT die, rolled towards thee, thou all-destroying but unconquering whale; to the last, he grappled with thee; from hell's heart he stabbed at thee; for hate's sake, he spat his last breath at thee.
And Tiny Tim, who did NOT die, said he would buy the flowers himself.
And Tiny Tim, who did not die, had the time of his life, no, he never felt like this before, yes I swear, it's the truth, and he owes it all to Scrooge

Rewatched the first episode of the Pokémon anime and it's kinda funny how there's this genuine intensity to it that you don't really see afterwards. Like Ash and Pikachu go out into the wild and immediately get their shit kicked in by a bunch of birds.

CHOTINER: and when you're in water you

PARTICLE MAN: don't get wet, that's right.

CHOTINER: And this is because

PARTICLE MAN: the water gets me instead. It becomes particle-manish

CHOTINER: There's been some debate on this point. Triangle Man, for example

PARTICLE MAN: I think we're done here

TIL that wage garnishing for debt service cannot extract so much that you have a weekly income smaller than thirty hours at federal minimum wage, which suggests minimum wage is (intended to be) about 30% above `minimum survivable income`

screaming crying throwing up /usr is the abbreviation of "Unix System Resources" it is not a save-one-character form of the word "user" the way that e.g. mv is the save-character form of "move" and not the acronym for "mangle versioning"
