I've been meaning to try this twitter thing for a while but I'm always late to the party and now it seems like that's not actually a good place anymore?
I'm gonna go ahead and be that guy again and bug @cameron.pfiffer.org to consider waking void from its bliss spiral somnolence.

Breaking: we release a fully synthetic generalist dataset for pretraining, SYNTH and two new SOTA reasoning models exclusively trained on it. Despite having seen only 200 billion tokens, Baguettotron is currently best-in-class in its size range. pleias.fr/blog/blogsyn...

For the record I think the best solution to The Twitter Problem is to find ways to make Musk's embrace of Nazism into a live scandal, and rely on social sanction to drive people away. That means less time badgering people who still use it normally, and more time pointing out what's happening there.

Introducing the File Search Tool in the Gemini API, our hosted RAG solution with free storage and free query time embeddings 💾
We are super excited about this new approach and think it will dramatically simplify the path to context aware AI systems, more details in 🧵

kinda an interesting consequence to note: I'd had Brianna Wu followed as a gesture towards wanting to know what people were mad about when they got mad about stuff. Unfollowing her doesn't get me unblocked by people who blocked me via list of her followers. Permabanned, I guess.

Imagine you time travel back to 1847 and you find the left response to industrialization is a) machines will never be as good as human weavers or b) we need to copyright loom patterns or c) it’s a speculative bubble.
You’d say “Y’all. Not helping. What you need is obviously a labor movement.”

Too busy to lay out details right this sec, but tiling a 1664 dim transformer out of pretrained 416 dim layers gives it a decent warm start advantage over random init, and doing it with what Claude calls "Diagonal stratification" teases out a couple more perplexity.

Some wisdom from Copilot this morning:
"....a protocol for empathy: assume decent motivations, interrogate the incentive structures, and then design narratives or systems that realign consequence with intention..."
Keep feeling ways about what's happening! Also remember a lot of folks ARE trying.

It's neat how if you ask Claude Code questions about itself it can answer them, because it knows how to fetch a Markdown index of its own online documentation and then navigate to the right place
