My friends will be extremely grateful to Adam for conveying in a ten minute article what usually requires hours of rambling from me.
The far right is obsessed with Lord of the Rings and Musk keeps posting about "hobbits" because modern scientific racism owes more to fantasy worlds and gaming systems than genetic science, and they see both as effective mediums for right-wing propaganda www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2025/1...

“*Insert conservative Democrat here* voted to kill your healthcare so they could save the filibuster“ should be the theme of at least 8 major primary campaigns next year.

Hope I’m wrong but I suspect 2 years from now we’ll look back on this as the vote that made the ACA a dead letter.

It’s the enshittification of sports. Rugby reimagined not as matches for the masses to watch but as events for the affluent to attend.
Mike Tindall's rebel league has been gaining a lot of attention. It's about to be rugby's Hindenburg. We break down why this is a bad-faith disaster waiting to happen.

Being an American Rugby fan is great because I can watch the replays whenever I like without fear of spoilers. It’s not like the gas station attendant selling me a soda is gonna go “Yo dawg, you see Marcus hit that drop goal against Sarries? Go Quins!”

It’s interesting being attacked by Stancil haters who are openly proud of their refusal to read anything.

I honestly don’t care that much how anyone consistently opposed to Trump forecasted the degree to which Trump’s election would be bad. I’m more annoyed by people who voted for him and want to be patted on the head like a Golden Retriever for changing their mind.

How are we feeling about “Sewer Socialism” these days?

Maybe this is petty, but Weissman’s comparative politics lens here isn’t particularly insightful. What is a Döner Republic exactly? A Republic where people eat Döner? That indeed describes both the US and Turkiye.

We’re becoming a Döner Republic
Trump’s move to crush the Federal Reserve’s independence is a first step toward becoming an economic basket case like Turkey.

Still not getting it. It’s the rural poor who voted for their own hospitals to close. I’m just not willing to close my hospital to save them from their own mistake. I’m also not going to clutch my pearls or grovel for forgiveness.

The New Democrat Coalition wants more of these guys.
🚨Border Patrol arrested two firefighters who were actively fighting a wildfire at the time.
When the other members of the crew asked for a chance to say goodbye, a Border Patrol agent told the crew member “you need to get the f*ck out of here. I’m going to make you leave.”

I think I’m significantly less confident in the virtue of the First Amendment we have after reading Ari Cohn talking about Sam Altman’s internet suicide booth.

A big problem with the piece is Demsas can’t seem to decide if she’s defending her decision to stay on twitter or trying to persuade the rest of us to come back. I tend to get bored with debates over acceptable/necessary platforms for other people to appear on.
It's annoying how many Vichy Twitter apologists just do not address this point, the core objection to "staying on Twitter," that it's a rigged game and one explicitly designed to brainwash via what the algorithm chooses to show users. Demsas's article doesn't even mention it.
this might be a defensible point if twitter weren't algorithmically driven and if the owner intentionally down weights anything left of stormfront
