Building https://sunslider.social. v1 now available for iOS and Android.

Why?

Because we need social networks built for normal people.

Also built

1/ We're all here on @bsky.app because we got pissed off with how the other site was being run.

And it made me realize we could build a different world, one that helps us us feel a little better about not being tied to an asshole like Musk.

So I thought about other assholes we could get free of.

Meta is putting a "Name Tag" feature in Ray-Bans - facial recognition through the glasses' camera. You look at someone, AI tells you who they are.
In an internal document, the company wrote that the timing is good because civil society groups are busy with politics and won't cause problems.

Grim news out of Seattle: we passed an ordinance raising the pay of delivery drivers, but the result has been fewer delivery orders, leaving many of them worse off.

It may just be that "instant delivery of your food" is not a practical business & only exploitation can make it "work."
Seattle's gig worker law was supposed to boost pay. It did at first, until orders dropped
It’s been two years since Seattle’s gig worker minimum wage took effect. It was intended to boost labor standards for app-based drivers who deliver food for companies like DoorDash or Uber Eats. How h...

I wish I still had my original “Abolish ICE” shirt, collector’s shit nowadays.

Imagine, the agency that was already CORRECTLY being slagged with “Abolish ICE” in 2017 has been gutted because the previously horrendous leaders weren’t nearly horrendous enough for Trump 2.
So much wrong at DHS:
On top of its *policy* of widespread human rights violations, corruption & lies (Lewandowski steering contracts & lying about the # of days worked to qualify as a "Special Government Employee"),
this stood out:
firing/demoting "roughly 80% of the career ICE field leadership"

This company is so uniquely toxic and awful.
Meta's plan for launching glasses that people can use to secretly identify strangers on the street is to do it "during a dynamic political environment" when people who care about why that's bad are "focused on other concerns."

Oh well this isn’t good
All flights to and from El Paso, Texas, have been grounded for ten days for “Special Security Reasons”, the Federal Aviation Administration announced.

Shutting down airspace of a major US city for such an extended period hasn’t happened since the aftermath of 9-11.

everyone with an IQ above paste could have predicted this would happen: anyway; these Meta glasses are ontologically evil and anyone who wears them is a creeping blood-worm who should be chased from society with stones and sharp sticks

Sure, nuclear reactors are going up everywhere, why not
Trump: "I'm letting everybody that builds a plant build their own electric plant. So they're building a massive plant that's 4 miles long by 4 miles wide, and I'm letting them build electric plants. Some are nuclear, some are oil and gas, some are coal as a backup just in case."
