True, but it's missing the bit about how someone then argues with the expert, because reckons.
When someone posts an unidentified spider pic and 30 comments are all

Ugh!
Whitetail
KILL IT
white tail don’t get bitten
HATE spiders

and them someone who wrote an actual book on NZ spiders says

Common house spider (Baudumna sp.), harmless

And this in a nutshell is all social media discourse.

Might be missing something but wouldn't the record emigration figures be masking unemployment numbers a little? Probably actually worse than the really bad numbers suggest? #nzpol

Watched 3 News last night. Interviewer hauled prefect Hipkins over the coals in a interview. Same interviewer just let Nikki No Boats and the Bald fraud away with claiming the feels about the economy. No issues questioning Hipkins but don't be a coward and allow Govt to get away cheaply #nzpol

Just read the communal paper while making a coffee. Apparently it's time to join Australia as a state and even tho it's better to rent not buy financially, economist telling young people to buy because of feels.

I swear these articles are printed every year.

We have been living in CHC FT for 2 weeks now. The thing I had forgotten after living here early 2000's is the cicadas. So loud. Also I don't recall it being so windy back then?

Not the kind of miracles we need in 2026, but the lord works in mysterious ways

I've said it before, under Hipkins I could see this happening. He's a centrist through and through. It's an interesting thought exercise if red & blue could meet in the middle. Would it be better for the country than current coalition, especially if it kept those fn Act loonies away from govt?
A grand coalition??? In today’s NZ Herald

Counterpoint: Anyone who needs to work 72 hrs/wk to get their shit done, is either incompetent, a moron or both.
9-9-6 is only 72 hours/week. Those are rookie numbers. You got to get those numbers up.

Wow never saw the revelation episode. I can distinctly remember being really frustrated that ole Mr S would disappear on BigBird at the wrong time.
Sesame Street has uploaded a bunch of classic episodes to YouTube that are free to watch, including the very first episode from 1969, the one where Mister Rogers visits, and the episode where Mr. Snuffulupagus is finally revealed. [kottke.org]

I'd feel sorry for the workers if Oracle imploded, but man if anyone deserves some hubris payback it's that dick.
This is an oddly cheering thread. It would be splendid to see Ellison tank his whole empire.
It is important to know that despite its prominence TikTok loses billions of dollars and tweaking algorithms lays havoc to your ad sales. Oracle is gonna destroy this thing and it’s going to combine with the data center debt and consume it whole

These cunts are the just playing to their base - laugh while the earth burns. (or floods in this case).

We've seen enough to know they couldn't give a flying fuck about things that don't effect them.

Silly National party copy editor forgot the "In"
There is a fatal climate emergency level event affecting NZ level this past 24hrs & not one single piece of comms from the Govt on their FB about it.

This is from the past couple of hours.

they really don't care.

This is a damn fine metaphor. It even encapsulates Willis' disdain for boats. #nzpol
The govt is like a person in a lifeboat who has been given the job of keeping everyone warm and so has lit a fire and is gradually stripping the wood from the boat to burn while being excessively proud of their success in keeping everyone warm.

Government's finances in better than expected shape
The government's finances are in better than expected shape as spending has fallen more than the tax take.

Any one else wake up and go to their favourite news site to check if WW3 has started while you were asleep or is it just me?

It's hard to be positive at the moment. Everything is shit. The All Blacks are shit. Our politicians are the bumbling incompetents from a Gresham novel. The young are leaving in droves to be with the hot neighbour. The weather is shit. Everything costs too much. Only saving grace is the Blackcaps.

Every day Luxon feels more and more like a character from a Douglas Adams novel.
Good grief. What the ever loving f**k is this article about. Political journalism unhinged. A new class of puff piece. Can can someone just admit Luxon is incompetent. His speech was gobbledegook, it was unattached from the reality of life for NZers, the climate and cost of living crisis. #nzpol
The PM assessed the state of the nation on Monday, but also aspects of his political and geopolitical approach to life.

It's always a roller coaster been a #Blackcaps fan, but on reflection the last 5-10 years have been pretty bloody good, on balance. We are the cricketing worlds quiet achievers. Just hope we can keep healthy and in form for the big test at the end of the year. #Cricket

WTF do we need these roads for? Not to drive to hospitals to get treatment that's for sure.
🤔 The recent analysis from the ministry reveals that the benefit-to-cost ratio for the Roads of National Significance (Rons) is categorized as “medium to low.” Notably, only one road, State Highway 1 from Cambridge to the SH29 roundabout
More than ‘quarter of trillion dollars’ to be spent on land transport over next two decades
The Transport Minister has been told by officials to decide on his priorities.

I won't name names, but just saw a post somewhere from an Engineering firm who create stuff for other engineers praising how great AI was for building demo apps by their marketing people with zero input from design and engineering. Not sure if it's really the message they want to be sending

Excitedly saw a video about Borland come up in my YT suggestions last night. Watched the first minute and had to stop as it was effectively just AI video with a horrible voice over. Script had a written by AI feel to it to. Really hope YT doesn't devalue into a AI slop fest.
