Even the most free-market friendly actual solution to our healthcare problem involves the government de facto taking over catastrophic care and routine preventative care so that the rest can be hashed out on a relatively manageable free market basis, without a tragedy of the commons.
This is why conservatives can't wrap their brains around the fact that Medicare and Medicaid are so popular. "But it's government insurance! You didn't choose it like a consumer in the market!" People don't care. They just want reliable insurance. Give it to them and they'll be happy.
