I finally got around to reading this v helpful guide to the Anthropic lawsuit. Highly recommended if you think you might be among the countless whose work was stolen by the company to "train" its LLM chatbot Claude. Translators very much included! nwu.org/anthropic/

💛 L2 translators continue to remind the world that the concept of a mother tongue is, in fact, not so straightforward in large parts of the world, and that many of us translate into a language that is not our first!
As someone who immigrated to Ohio as a disoriented teen with zero English, appearing in @kenyonreview.bsky.social years later, with one of my most personal translations means a little extra. Since 2023, translators and interpreters have seen work dry up, rates plummet and their jobs reduced to editing AI-generated output. Some are leaving the field, others are considering bankruptcy. All despite any major upgrade in translation quality.
