I would love to never hear the phrase "less fortunate" in a homily again. Besides the implication that poverty and suffering is no one's fault and simply a lack of "fortune", why is there such hesitation to use more direct language, "the poor", "the vulnerable", "the marginalized", "the oppressed"?
I've seen multiple articles claim that the name of the Luce & Friends character Xin "means 'truth' in Japanese" 😭 This is not only wrong, it's EXTREMELY wrong. Japanese romanization does not use the letter X, so there's no way it could be correct! Xìn 信 means "faith" in Mandarin Chinese.

I'm not sure people have really appreciate how lucky the US has been to have Lina Khan at the FTC. Her likely replacement, Andrew Ferguson, has been pretty clear that he's not too interested in doing stuff like this.
FTC sues John Deere over its repair monopoly

Deere "has illegally restricted the ability of farmers and independent technicians to repair Deere equipment, including tractors and combines."

You can make $trillions/year immediately as a religious leader, and you unironically need zero experience or capital.

The steps are simple.

1. Become auxiliary bishop of Los Angeles

2. Start a publisher dedicated to your spirituality

3. Give yourself permission to found a new order of priests

(And I say "almost everything" because I've seen attempts to lump recommendation algorithms [which aren't necessarily ANNs] into "AI" as well. Broadly, everything that's called "AI" is some kind of machine learning, but basically all of the generative models that get touted as The Future are ANNs.)

And since this is such an excellent anti-propaganda point, I'd like to piggyback and add for anyone reading who'd like to avoid calling it "AI" as well: almost everything that's called "AI" is one of these.

The term 'hallucination' itself is propaganda.

When a computer makes a mistake we call it an error. Calling them "Hallucination" is applying undue personhood to this "word predictor machine".

So the church I go to (St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica in Beaumont, Texas) has an abbreviated form of the Beatitudes from the Gospel of Matthew below the clerestory windows

Artificial-neural-network-based speech synthesis is so wacky to me because like... it does the same thing that ANN image generation does but with speech.

A humble appeal to theologians and Christian media: Christians around the world are organizing for debt justice during the Jubilee Year. They'll do it with or without the help of theologians and journalists, but it's a unique opportunity to show how valuable these fields are for Christian action.

If this happens, having alt text means that there's still a way to view the information conveyed by the image. This is actually likely the main way sighted people have encountered alt text.

Like, under-discussed imo reason that alt text is good? Resilience to technical failure. A lot of us take fast, reliable internet connections for granted now, but not everyone has that. On especially slow or unstable connections it's common for images to just fail to load.
