The worst reactions to the Tumbler Ridge shooting will come from the far right in Canada and the U.S.:

“See? Gun control doesn’t work! See? Trans people are mentally ill and not to be trusted.”

So when you hear this, reject it with actual data: /1

Note to American posters who seem to think Canadian media or law enforcement is 'hiding' something by giving limited info on the mass shooting in Tumbler Ridge. It's how we do it here to protect integrity of investigations, future court cases, make sure victims families are notified, etc.

I have yet to see any evidence that there is a market for AI-generated books outside of people being tricked into thinking they are not AI-generated books. AKA, it is a project of scamming and deceiving people, and really should be treated as fraud

Every instance of "AI democratizes the arts, you're classist and ableist and a gatekeeper for trying to stop it" is a slap in the face to the literally centuries of poor, disabled people making art on the margins and a crass lie in service of a machine that strips down and regurgitates dreams

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...

She made key contributions to US cold-war science despite facing huge barriers as a Black woman.

Because women from the beginning of time have proven how effective smear campaigns against men are. How we always win. How every accused man has disappeared from history. That's why we keep starting them. /s
Neil Gaiman has said the allegations of sexual misconduct made against him over the past two years are "completely and simply untrue" and the result of a "smear campaign".

Even though I haven't really used my journalism degree in a meaningful way in years, I still feel ill when journalists and writers who are trying to inform and shine light in the dark places...you know, doing what the fourth estate is supposed to do...are axed en masse. It's such a gut punch.
