My publisher added some jazziness to their holiday gift guide! I love it. 💜

Here's the pitch for my book. Available widely on the bad billionaire site, select local stores in Edmonton and Saskatoon, and direct from the publisher.

Humans matter. I want art to be made by humans and enjoyed by humans. And I want that to be true across the chain of creation. From idea to implementation to publication to presentation and distribution. Fuck AI.

Everyone in my house (except the cats) is super sick, but at this moment I'm well enough to whine about it here, so I must be on the road to recovery.

It's just that I would *like* to stop writing poems that question and seek hope, beauty, joy, reason in this bonkers and increasingly awful world, but they're the only ones that come out.

Ditto the 'it's too late to do anything about climate change' crowd
"We lost the battle to AI already" or "this isn't a fight worth battling" are not objective or neutral stances. They are pro-AI stances, intended to demoralize or deflect people against genAI. The person saying them is spending their time and energy pushing back on us for the benefit of the AI corps

This is so f%$#ing infuriating. Killing the planet and wasting precious water for a plagiarizing, stupifying, meme-making, disinformation centre.

Brilliant.

"Wang estimated the water needed for the fully completed data centre, including both cooling and for the power plant, would be between 112 and 195 billion litres per year. That is roughly one-third to two-thirds of the total annual water consumption of all the households in Alberta."

I hereby apologize for and take back all the mean things I ever said about figure skating.

Day 15 of #ArtAdventCalendar this snowy Monday, with the Stump Witch. She's got that Monday vibe. Not the defeated one so much as the 'try me. Go on' one.

If you absolutely can’t stay home, wear a mask.

There are people who can’t afford to get sick. People without paid time off, people who are disabled or immune compromised, people who are caregivers.

My completely unimportant seasonal take is that white chocolate is grossly sweet, chalky, trash that has zero business calling itself 'chocolate' in the first place.

Never have small acts of human creativity mattered so much. Paint, draw, put on a play, write a song, learn an instrument, write a story (or a book!). The worst thing you ever make will be better than all this slop.

Fucking incredible dystopian shit, comparing super rich people risking millions if not billions of lives just to make more money to people that risked their life actually building incredible things that would then make millions of dollars for super rich people.
