A lovely bedtime cat story (well, my bedtime at least). 😻
THREAD.

3 years ago, with no warning, a brilliant orange farm cat wandered over from the draughty barn where he had been living, in rural Cornwall, and decided he wanted to live with us instead.

We decided to call him Jim.

This is the first photo I took of him, on that night: December 1st, 2022.

For anyone who has been confused by the disappearance of the official Anthropic Settlement website, it's back online: www.anthropiccopyrightsettlement.com

It was temporarily removed thanks to concerns by the judge in the case, who stipulated a number of changes that had to be made.

Why are they doing this? I don't feel it's for me, but to ensure the boys aren't forgotten when Macca and Ringo, as well as their original fans, are gone.

The Beatles Anthology: the flammed together ‘new episode’ feels totally pointless
The TV equivalent of raiding a bare cupboard, the supposed extra hour here is cobbled together from previous DVD extras – but you can’t miss the tension between Harrison and McCartney

Questions I tackled in today's Q&A on Agents & Books:
1. If my #3 agent offers me representation, can I use that to get my #1 and #2 agents to respond quicker?
2. How many "not for me" responses should I wait to get before I pull and revise my query letter?

Hi Friends! I'm having a VERY productive week, mostly because no one is emailing me. I love it! I also wanted to make up for not sending a Q&A last week. I know most of you don't particularly care bu...

Just like Boxing Day "deals," Black Friday has become just as useless after they realized that years of branding those days as "bargain" days enables them to get away with gradually offering shittier and shittier deals.

*sighs in Boomer, remembering the 1990s*
I keep getting emails from book businesses like Atticus and ProWritingAid talking about all the Black Friday deals they have and none of them are under $100.

If that's a deal? I don't want it.

Parked on Victoria Avenue, if I'm not mistaken.
Neil Young and the Squires with "Mort," the 1948 Buick Roadmaster equipment vehicle hearse, Fort William (now Thunder Bay), Ontario, April 1965. Left to right: bassist Ken Koblun, Neil Young (holding a guitar), and drummer Bob Clark.

The benefits of living in an apartment building with an intercom. And having a Canadian accent even if I do understand what they're saying. And if they do sneak in I have a sticker on my door of Andre van Duin giving them the stinkeye. 😂

This one's for @mandobanjoman.bsky.social. His favourite Eurythmics song. ❤️

"Never Gonna Cry Again" (#63 UK, 1981) Their debut single.

"The Look Of Love" - Dusty Springfield (#26 RPM #22 US 1967)

When DJs flipped over to the B-side of "Give Me Time," they found this gem. Another Bacharach/David film theme (Casino Royale) starring Peter Sellers, but not as weird!

Connection: Another song with "Fox" in the title.

"After The Fox" - The Hollies with Peter Sellers (1966)

One of the weirder Burt Bacharach/Hal David songs. But still...the Hollies. 😊

A deal ain't a deal if you can't afford it. $399 for livetime pro? Yeah, no.
Was going to check out Autocrit this year but looks like they aren't doing a Black Friday deal this year? Or do they wait until the absolute last minute?

Here’s my 2 nickels (can’t make no cents with this administration):

Tekbroz say AI is trained on our conversations to learn how to communicate like humans.

But actually, it learned from algorithms we navigate that push “rage to engage.”

#AI never saw a sunset, smelled a rose, nor fallen in love.

Ah, it's that time of year! When r/pubtips has a daily post asking whether they should query agents this time of year.

Short answer: I got a form rejection on Christmas Day once.

Just yeet already.

Good luck finding a 59-year old woman who can still pop out babies. Or a 49-year-old for that matter. Even 39 can be pushing it.

I suspect the "at least 20 years younger" part was his lame attempt to sound less creepy. Didn't work, dude.

Thank you, Paul.❤️

But head's up to those who add entire lists without curating: I moved from Canada to Holland 21 years ago & keep my feed ltd to oldies music, novel writing & silly shite. If your feed is predominantly US politics, I won't be following back, sorry. I follow another forum for that.

Day 19

"Over Under Sideways Down" - The Yardbirds (#10 UK, #5 RPM, #13 US)

Taken right back to listening to our console stereo radio in 1966 with this...especially the line "when will it end...when will it end..."

"Tired Of Toein' The Line" - Rocky Burnette (#8 US #4 RPM #58 UK 1979)

This hit by Johnny's son, released to overwhelming meh in the UK, had enough old-time r&r vibe (& 70s hair) to appeal to North America. The ex & I used to imitate barking dogs to this.
