A fascinating politician. Does not do the job, visibly and audibly not interested in the brief…bizarrely aggro about people pointing it out.

This by @zoesqwilliams.bsky.social is really worth a read, in spite of the fact that it mentions me in passing. She's convinced me, anyway, that vice-signalling really is a thing - and a phenomenon/technique we need to take very seriously.
The rise of vice-signalling: how hatred poisoned politics
Over the last 10 years, the terms of political debate have changed completely – and week by week they seem to get worse

1.4 million views for Sky journalist Ben Bloch's tweet uncritically sharing obviously false numbers - Jim Ratcliffe's mistaken claim population rose 12 million since 2020.

Only 32k views for his reply saying those numbers are wrong, added when challenged for sharing the false numbers uncritically.

'UK has been colonised by immigrants', says INEOS boss and Man Utd co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe
In an interview with Sky News's Ed Conway, Sir Jim says Britain faces profound political, social and economic challenges, among them an unprecedented rise in immigration in recent years.

If nothing else, it would probably be worth putting the fact he's just wrong about every individual detail into the headline.

Well done to Sky for correcting this bit of ignorance.

As shown extensively in the Epstein files there's plenty of proof that being rich doesn't mean you have any great insights into the world.

arguably the biggest news of the week that Lisa Nandy is currently doing something related to her brief
Only three cabinet ministers have not Tweeted or put out a message of support for Starmer:

Wes Streeting
Shabana Mahmood
Lisa Nandy (who is at the Winter Olympics)

This could of course change, but it's where we're at just before 3:30pm

That was a pretty awful performance from Sarwar. The speech needed to have a sense of noble purpose & feel like a genuine impassioned call for change. Sadly it just looked cynical and devoid of any substance. Starmer is hobbled and Sarwar will never be trusted again. Another cracking day for Labour

If Lisa Nandy tweets it will act as both a support for the PM and proof that she is still alive.
David Lammy, Rachel Reeves, Darren Jones, John Healey, Heidi Alexander etc have all rallied round the prime minister - keep an eye on which cabinet ministers don't 👀

I'd love to see them not deliberately scupper the arts & ents industry, the industry full of self employed & small business traditional left wing voting professionals, which they decided to break bc Sam Altman winked at them once or something
I'm no political strategist but has anyone in Labour considered *not* alienating any huge chunk of their base? I just feel like they tried alienating the left and the centre left and the public sector workers and the academics, and none of those things worked great, so maybe give my idea a whirl?

This! Labour’s leadership is being talked about as if it’s some kind of poisoned chalice.

In reality it’s a chance to take over the first term of a government with a huge majority. It’s the political opportunity of a lifetime.
Yet this is a government with three years left to run and an enormous Commons majority. For all the problems, there is an enormous opportunity there for someone with the political nous to take it and use it.
Starmer's reported condition - incredibly unpopular, shorn of authority, probably un-reelectable and yet will stagger on for want of an alternative - is just the new normal of how Britain is governed. It was also true for two-thirds of May's premiership, half of Johnson's and all of Sunak's.
