Big news! The 'all scientists who do climate' feed now stands at:

🌏 3500 MEMBERS 🌎

...more than it ever had on Twitter!

Huge welcome to #3949, my fav colleague @brasmus.bsky.social, and #3500, @johndparker.bsky.social, who says he’s “not good at social media.” No longer, John!

New paper led by Emily Hollingsworth in Geochemical Perspective Letters. We use Raman spectroscopy to evaluate rock organic carbon oxidation during the Paleocene-Eocene thermal maximum and assess its role as a positive feedback mechanism! (1/3)

This is fantastic
I recently made a comic complaining that NASA refuses to listen to my good ideas for improving the Solar System (xkcd.com/2750).

To my delight, NASA’s Science Mission Directorate has sent me an actual expert panel evaluation of my “flatten the planets” proposal! Sadly, they decided not to fund it.

A sight to behold!!
NASA's first photo from the inside of OSIRISREx -- you're looking at the sample of the asteroid Bennu! They previously found signs of Carbon and water. Looking forward to hearing what exactly they find.

Just out, a 66 million year history of atmospheric CO2. Key take away: CO2 hasn't been at today's levels for at least 3 million years. These high CO2 worlds in the geological past had less ice and *much* higher sea levels 📈🌊 ⚒️🧪 www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Reposting great tips that helped me to write a guide for my own students. Key points: AI-text 1) is inaccurate, 2) amplifies bias, 3) relies on other people’s words and ideas.
But also, useful. I invited students to teach me how they use it. They pointed out things I’d never think of! Amazing 🧪⚒️
BU's Computing Data Science policy is #26
"Give credit to AI tools whenever used...add an appendix showing (a) entire exchange, highlighting most relevant sections (b) precisely which AI tools were used (c) an explanation of how the AI tools were used (d) why AI tools were used"

Just created my first syllabus that includes a policy on AI assistance. This resource was super helpful: docs.google.com/document/d/1...

I’ve taught about climate change for over three decades. I’m allowing myself to be cautiously encouraged for the first time. You should too. Thanks @drkatemarvel.bsky.social for this helpful message and let’s keep it going
Here’s a gift link to my @nytimes.com op-ed arguing that because of the tireless work of the policymakers, engineers, activists, and others who listened to the science, we now have a fighting chance for a better world
