First they came for the immigrants, and I spoke out, because I’ve read the damn poem before and I know how it ends.

Instant reaction to this news from a friend (as White as I am) who retired from the USAF as a colonel: "What the fuck?!"
The Air Force is stripping Tuskegee Airmen lessons from basic training curriculum because of our White supremacist government.
Put that in a headline.

Because we've let the press consolidate in the hands of right wing billionaires with a vested interest in the hollowing out of informed consensus and real journalism, replaced by shallow ad-based controversy infotainment designed largely to disorient, distract, and coddle power?
How come we've left it to Teen Vogue and Rolling Stone to bring all the real heat lately, while the OpEd pages of the NYT and WaPo and half the regulars in pubs like The Atlantic have gone so far as to practically join the bad guys?
When a single billionaire can accumulate more money in 10 seconds than their employees make in one year, while workers struggle to meet the basic cost of rent and medicine, then yes, every billionaire really is a policy failure.

Were they right to take Trump at his word the first time? No. Did they acknowledge this failure? They did not. Ahhh!! But did they learn from their mistake? Also no.
Congrats. You played yourself.

Remember the "fact checkers" who upraided the Harris campaign for (correctly) stating that Project 2025 was an adjunct to Trump?
Congrats. You played yourself.

Politics is easier to understand if you realize the voters and policy are the product and the donors are the customers

Just like media is easier to understand if you realize the readers are the product, and the advertisers are the customer

I've fallen down the rabbit hole of creating a post-apocalyptic matriarchal Norse society where Freya is the Queen of the Gods and the Norse Pantheon is one big polycule

Ah yes, the fundamental error of the Dem mind: assuming that the public is somehow directly observing politics, and that the Democratic role is to react to the public's reaction, rather than help SHAPE the public's reaction
i think dems are waiting to see what the public's reaction is to the promises not being kept. i agree it's risky, but it's also risky right now to act like an outraged lib because there is a sense where when we act like that we're doing what far right media wants us to do.

A Trump presidency is the answer to the question “What would it look like if the U.S. government was actively trying to make people’s lives worse?”

STEP ONE: Massive right-wing culture war and witch hunt against any expression of cosmopolitan or liberal values by prominent individuals or institutions.

STEP TWO: ???????

STEP THREE: Multiracial working class movement capable of taking on corporate and oligarchic power.
DEI was an active impediment to the project of building a multiracial working class movement capable of taking on corporate and oligarch power. Rufo did the left a favor in nuking it.

There’s a lot of value in a humanities education, but being able to see through glib con men is a nice one.
The rise of Curtis Yarvin is a good example of the value of expertise and the problems when it's dismissed. People with philosophy and history training recognize him as an intellectual fraud. But he was able to convince enough VCs and software engineers who didn't have the chops to see his errors.
