i’m just so fucking tired of living through crisis after crisis and feeling like we have to beg for and negotiate with our own representatives to address the crises seriously. they shouldn’t have to be disciplined by the base into mustering an appropriate response to a fucking coup!

This is why this surrender isn't just about this narrow issue but is rather the whole constitutional ballgame:
Democrats are affirmatively signaling they do not want political power at the same time Trump is transitioning the political system into an autocratic one wherein they're denied it forever

Not that he didn’t already know, but now Trump knows for sure he can roll the Dems every time and there’s no need to negotiate for anything

one thing i do remember is that the republican party, before it went MAGA, was too weak to keep MAGA from taking it over. remember trump steamrolling all of those guys and now he tells them what to do and the worst elements of his base are in charge. democrats seem that weak now too. no control

And if it's not with their blessing, then it means they can't keep their caucus together. Either way it's unacceptable. If I was up for reelection I would be loudly calling for Schumer to step down as leader.

Sen Gary Peters is in his own way the biggest embarrassment of the lot. He’s been a leader of Team Cave and he’s retiring. So there’s no politics or risk aversion. He wants to cave as a matter of genuine principle.

They should act like a parliamentary opposition and not vote for anything. Sinn Fein (electoral) tactics needed.

Shutting down the government is a big deal. People have been hurt in big ways as a result of the decision. To have that suffering be for nothing—to re-open the government without actually having protected people’s health insurance and economic well-being—is unconscionable.

This is the result of Trump’s reconciliation bill, which made refugees and asylees ineligible for federal benefits until after getting their green cards.
That said; I don’t think there are many Ukrainians who came through the refugee program. Some asylees, yes.

People need to understand that Chicago is a preview, not a culmination.
I have been actively watching contracts and surge funding over the last few days and what I would say to my friends in Baltimore is “be absolutely ready, right now.”
ICE poised to ramp up raids in Baltimore by Thanksgiving
The Trump administration has rush-ordered infrastructure to conduct raids, abduct residents, and detain people for months.

Quick note about this again; the 100 mile zone has nothing to do with Border Patrol’s ability to operate. They can operate anywhere in the country.
The 100 mile zone is ONLY about where they have heightened stop and search powers.
It’s not a jurisdictional thing.

Why is Border Patrol in Chicago? It's not inside 100 mile limit.

there's something super romantic about the fact that JD Vance is so close to the presidency -- and therefore the validation he has craved that he can taste it but he will never grab the ring because in his younger, passionate days he fell for a exotic, beguiling woman from The Orient
