Clair Obscur’s now confirmed Gen-AI usage during the development process has caused their IGA debut and GOTY wins to be retracted.
The IGAs Nomination Committee is officially retracting Debut Game and Game of the Year, awarding both categories to new recipients. Additionally, we are retracting one of the Indie Vanguard recipients.

Thinking about how mad Hans Zimmer got when directors kept giving him temp tracks and asking for it “exactly like that.” Having all these talented artists just to hand them 90% of what you think is finished work is straight up an insult. Concept art isn’t a step you fast-forward - it’s the BEDROCK!

consider my feedback: i loved working at @larianstudios.com until AI. reconsider and change your direction, like, yesterday. show your employees some respect. they are world-class & do not need AI assistance to come up with amazing ideas.

I think this Larian interview is a good example of where a lot of executives have lost touch with their audience and the folks making the games. He says there have been no gains in using it, yet still it is being used because… reasons.
