one thing about the current state of things--it's been easier to write, in fact, I've HAD to write. And I'm sharing here because sometimes the realizations are so comforting it's impossible not to share.

I’m rewatching old GBBO seasons for comfort—I still don’t know the difference between dessert, pudding, and why cake fits in both categories but is also its own thing. Like someone said “I don’t like desserts they are too sweet” then proceeded to make a caramel cake I don’t get it but I’m ok with it

more hope & light this week--donations of food & money are up at the food pantry. Many people stopping in to donate for the 1st time, all genuinely concerned, asking what we need, how they can help. I love connecting more ppl to the great work being done & how they can contribute & participate

More importantly: People need food every single day.
Supporting your local food pantry can save lives, especially now when so many more people need them...
Folks - your local food pantry is planning for Thanksgiving NOW. Help them out with some coin. Especially if your company matches donations. Don’t throw away free money for good causes.

(Or donate to my local using PayPal - www.hydeparkfoodpantry.org/donate.html it’s a 501(c)3)

I was getting a massage and noticed the music was different but sounded familiar. Listened a bit and realized it was the Twin Peaks theme music but spa-ified. So I’m that old now.

Avoid the violence/nonviolence debate. It’s a trap.

The only thing that matters is what actions lead to more justice and less harm.

Inaction and complicity in the face of brutal oppression is the worst form of violence. Never forget it.

Hey folks,

I have a huge request for Pride:

Trevor Project is recruiting for a landmark new study. If you are LGBTQ, in the United States, and between 13-24 or know someone who is, pass this along to them.

Trevor’s research has led to meaningful defenses of queer and trans lives.

Remember when we thought “binders full of women” was the most idiotic thing we heard someone “important” say?

Thankful today for @foushee.house.gov & team who communicate often & w/ absolute clarity on what they are doing—who I see attending events and meeting with groups around the district! I see you show up at the food pantry where I volunteer, the city I live i; I am confident in what you are doing!
Republicans still won't reveal the final text for the tax scam that they plan on voting on today. They're hiding from the American people.

The GOP needs to answer for their plans to make record cuts to social services, including stopping free lunches for over 400,000 kids in need in North Carolina.

I volunteer at our county food pantry (different than a food bank but similar mission to provide food to neighbors who needs it!) and some days the impact of this work slaps me right in the face. Today several volunteers were in tears because a neighbor broke down when shopping. 1/

On our morning walk, I saw a person sitting in the sun on a bench with a Bojangles box in their lap. As the dog and I passed by (her nose in the air) we said hello and they smiled and said "sometimes you just need a chicken biscuit and sweet tea" and I think that's beautiful

She asked me to sit with a difficult feeling that came up and turns out I couldn’t do it for very long. I can sit with challenging problems, tense moments, extreme stress but I tend to immediately move to taking action—which is great in some situations, but in processing feelings, not so much.

Surprising....well, no one, it's much easier to tear a bunch of things/systems/people down that it is to build them up.

How much Elon Musk makes from the government a day: $8 million.

How much a senior on Social Security gets a day: $65

Guess which budget Musk and Trump want to cut?

hi, it's me, distracting myself for a minute to look up the etymology of "hullabaloo" and discovered there are many explanations. But my favorite is that it's derived from the French "hurluberlu"; isn't too far from "hurling" so yeah, here we are (www.worldwidewords.org/qa-hul1.html)
Hullabaloo
Does <em>hullabaloo</em> come from a cry of the hunting field?

I’ve had a thing for care bears for pretty much forever. Bought friend bear for my friends new baby, got cheer bear for Xmas and bought grumpy bear just because well, sometimes it feels right to make this face and still feel cute.

There's a small nature walk loop near my neighborhood and just recently explored it and realized something delightful--someone has been adding and sometimes relocating small, wooden birds.

I'm just going to (re)post this whenever I need to remind myself. Maybe it'll help you too?

1. Focus on things in your control & take ONE action there.

2. Limit your inputs. You can't help if you're paralyzed.

The antidote for despair is action ❤️

* Dial (202) 224-3121
* Enter zip code
* Leave voicemail
* Say “My name is ___, I’m a constituent in [town]. (If clinician/scientist, say so)

“The NIH freeze harms research and patients and must be lifted immediately.”

Be brief. Staffers tally all calls. Go! ✅
NIH funding supports the vast majority of all biomedical research in the United States. Virtually every advance in American medicine and biological science comes from NIH. This is a blow against American science.

Call Congress, 202-224-3121.
All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.
