So sad to hear Catherine O'Hara died. She could cheer me up out of any slough of despond and have me cackling and belly laughing. I highly recommend the interview she did with Julia Louis-Dreyfuss, here's the link:

The original image is 18,200 pixels across. Bluesky allows a maximum image size of 2,000 pixels.

Here's what a randomly selected, 2,000-px portion of the entire image looks like.

There is ONE obvious Milky Way star in this portion.

Here's another deep field image from JWST.

There's something pretty amazing hidden within it, which I'll talk about next.

But open up this image and lose yourself in this almost impossibly vast view of our Universe.

The six-pointed features are stars in the Milky Way. Everything else is a galaxy.

Courting the Wild Twin, by Martin Shaw. Best folklore book about doing shadow work I've ever found. Blindboy Boatclub just interviewed him, which led me to the book. Go find it... i especially recommend the audiobook...

I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

Word is that @nyccomptroller.bsky.social is going to start buying Israeli bonds again, while Israel is violating the ceasefire. Bonds directly support the growth and plans of a genocidal government. Shame on you, Levine, for sending #NYC funds over to kill Palestinians and build on their land.

Insomnia thoughts:
Somewhere there's a video of a woman in a kitchen with her two cats. One cat, a void or a dark tabby, is stalking around the kitchen floor, yelling. The other, a big orange, is being held like a baby, wistfully staring into the middle distance, like a Pieta,

Rob Reiner had one of the most wide-ranging audiences of any American filmmaker. People rewatch his films with nostalgia and joy. They quote them with parents and pass them down to children.

Ignore the other one's commentary. It's like a black hole commenting on the sun.

Rob Reiner seemed to radiate kindness to me. One of the last people on earth I would have imagined would die this way. This after Brown U... after all the Trump administration cruelty this year... America needs serious help.

My heart goes out to Mel Brooks especially, how awful he must feel.

It just hit me that Murder on the Orient Express starts in Aleppo, which means even the benign first pages are soaked in blood... Aleppo was a major site of deportations (by train) and massacres in the Armenian Genocide. I wonder if Christie did that consciously, or was Aleppo just tourism for her.
