The Ocean Cleanup aims to remove 90% of ocean plastic by 2040 and are well on their way through a mix of prevention and removal. They've also added devices to catch plastic in rivers so it never reaches the ocean after an analysis showing that 80% of ocean plastic comes from just 1% of rivers.

Thanks to my fellow councillors for agreeing unanimously that @fingal.ie should stop using X, especially mayor Tom O’Leary for taking the suspension of standing orders and John Smith for suggesting that approach.
Fingal County Council has decided to stop using X for its communications, except for emergency communications, @michaellanigan.bsky.social points out to me, after watching the meeting.
