Like “every other scientist, I was not allowed to speak in any kind of scientific meeting or public setting,” Francis Collins, a geneticist who had worked for the biomedical research agency since the 1990s, said during an episode that aired Sunday.

Least surprising news ever.
Ex-NIH Director Says Trump Silenced Him, Others
A former director of the National Institutes of Health—who resigned in February—told CBS’s 60 Minutes that working at the agency became “untenable” after President Donald Trump started his second term...

Turns out contemporary conservatives hate all of science. Being ignorant is now a tribal identity marker for them.

In the least surprising news of the day the Trump regime fakes evidence to justify their treatment of a person.
Trump fabricates a photo of Mr. Garcia with MS-13 tattoo on his hand. This is NOT a real image. Trump and his regime fabricated it. Please understand that Trump regime would fabricate evidence to put you or your family in jail. This is what FASCISM regimes do. www.mediaite.com/trump/trump-...
Trump Touts Seemingly Doctored Photo of Abrego Garcia’s Hand in Attempt To Prove Maryland Man Is Gang Member
President Donald Trump posted a photo of himself holding a seemingly digitally altered image of the left hand of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was wrongly deported to El Salvador last month.

That moment when you find sceptical figures you once respected think “woke ideology” is a far bigger threat to science than the right wing extremists in the Trump Administration.

Not a few Christian Nationalists have been vocal in calling for the repealing of the 19th Amendment. This is one way to achieve something like that. Gotta stop those handmaidens voting.
yeah man, please make my 85 year
old great aunt prove her citizenship to vote in rural georgia, this definitely isn’t reminiscent of anything in the american past
🧵 There are a lot of misleading claims out there about the SAVE Act. Let me set the record straight: I voted for the SAVE Act for the simple reason that American elections are for Americans. Requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote is common sense.

Making the Chinese look like the good guys and adults in the room isn’t hard when you’re dealing with couch boy, admittedly.
Think about how much of an entitled prick you’d have to be to think calling other human beings “peasants” when you’re the Vice President is an ok thing to do.

The world’s worst diplomat strikes again.

Also: we don’t borrow money from them. That is nonsense.

Exactly. Remember, he’s a corrupt stupid conman and convicted felon. There’s no Machiavellian plans here. He’s just behaving like he always has in the business world.
Don’t overthink this.
He’s asking for bribes.

Now that those tariffs have been reversed or paused, are we now back in the emasculated free-trade wilderness? Curious minds want to know.

The more she lies the smaller her nose gets and the larger her cross grows. It’s like an inverse Pinocchio of the far right.
It's almost impossible to imagine, after the first Trump administration, but do we have the stupidest, lying Press Secretary in history?

I have no problems with the research as such but we’re not resurrecting dead species. They’re gone forever and misleading hype like this is irritating.
This is not a dire wolf. It's a gray wolf with some fairly minor genetic modification to exhibit a few (presumed) dire wolf traits.

Similarly, this woolly mouse is not a mammoth. It's a genetically modified mouse exhibiting a mammoth trait.

Exactly. Who would come to the U.S. to build a scientific career when future Republican regimes could deport your postdocs and grad students or just make them disappear?
I am increasingly convinced that there is no coming back from any of this, that whatever happens in future elections, the United States is never going to go back to being the country it once was. It is certainly not the country I came to 30 years ago.
Hard to overstate how lawless and also just fundamentally *untrustworthy* this country is, any promise we ever made anyone about anything turns out to have been fake www.nytimes.com/2025/04/08/u...

I’m quite happy for all of them to be cancelled forever, which is a shame because the Blind Watchmaker still remains my favourite evolutionary biology book.
Dozens of "scientists and scholars"—including Richard Dawkins, Jerry Coyne, Lawrence Krauss, and Jordan Peterson—are contributing essays to a right-wing publisher's book about "the war on science."

The focus? DEI and cancel culture. Not Republicans.

Republicans are waging a real war on science. But a new book, edited by Lawrence Krauss, thinks the enemies of science are DEI and "cancel culture."
