£4bn is a rounding error in an economy the size of the UK’s and in return the UK would get a leadership position in booming global industries, enhanced climate resilience and energy security, and multiple co-benefits. It’s a very good deal.
How much will it cost the UK to reach an 87% cut in greenhouse gas emissions by 2040?

In a new letter, @thecccuk.bsky.social confirms about £4bn a year (£26bn a year of costs minus £22bn a year of savings).

This is truly sad news. Jim Wallace was respected and liked across politics in Scotland, and a genuinely principled politician. He will be sadly missed.

Edinburgh Council deserves credit for implementing the pavement parking ban quicker than any other Scottish council - and no streets are exempt. We're proud to have played a significant role.

Auschwitz was at the end of a process. We must remember that it did not start from gas chambers.

This hatred gradually developed: from ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder.

Auschwitz took time.

One for @privateeyenews.bsky.social to appreciate.
Massive news! Court of Appeal rules Tower Hamlets plan to rip out LTNs unlawful because council would be failing to implement it's own "local implementation plan [LIP] – namely, the way it planned to implement the transport strategy" of Mayor @london.gov.uk. In other words, rogue boroughs can't...
After 2+ years of legal battles, the Court of Appeal has ruled in our favour.
Tower Hamlets cannot lawfully remove our safer streets. A huge precedent for London.

The battle to get girls (and women's) football treated properly continues. Well done to all involved.
As a former South Morningside parent I'm really proud of the girls football team for winning an Edinburgh-wide tournament but even prouder that they stood up for themselves when presented with a tiny trophy in stark contrast to the one awarded to the winning boys

Welcome news from today's #ScotBudget that people travelling to Scotland on private jets will be taxed ✈️ 🥳

We look forward to sharing our views in the consultation and making sure polluters pay appropriately for the damage they cause 💰
🚨 BREAKING: at today’s #ScotBudget the Scottish Government announced a new tax on private jets, something we've been campaigning for.

The true test will be how tough the tax is: it must punitively punishes the pockets of private jet passengers raising millions for green projects.

Worth reading this pavement parking response, including for positive impact of the ban in Scotland:
Joseph, 15, who uses a powered wheelchair, can now travel independently on the pavement, rather than being blocked by parked cars & having to travel in the road from dropped kerb to dropped kerb.
“These new powers do not go far enough to protect pedestrians. It’s disappointing not to see a nationwide prohibition.”

Our @charitycat.bsky.social responds to the news that local authorities will receive legal powers to restrict pavement parking. https://www.livingstreets.org.uk/pavement-parking

Critically, we also need the public to support actions that enable older people to live great lives without having to drive for when they fail the eye tests. So the public need to get onboard with no pavement parking, pedestrian priority, denser housing, fewer out-of-town shopping centres, etc etc
90% of Britons support government proposals to require drivers over the age of 70 to have their vision checked every three years - including 89% of the over-65s
