I need today to be over so I can stop doomscrolling and breathe a short, albeit needed, sigh of relief.

This administration is so fucking stupid.
I know it’s too much to expect them to know their history, but if the American Revolution had a motto, it definitely would not have been “immigrants go home.”

It would have been “get your fucking soldiers out of our cities.”
America... boy, I dunno.

Sounds like a party! I don’t see the problem, Senator.
Thune: "If the Democrats had won the majority, they probably would've tried to nuke the filibuster. And then you'd have four new senators from Puerto Rico and DC, you'd have a packed Supreme Court, you'd have abortion on demand ... "

The arrogance and absolute refusal to learn anything is just astounding.

In case you need me to say it, “political correctness” is not why we lost in Vietnam.
Trump: "The problem with Vietnam, we, you know, we stopped fighting to win. We would've won easy. We would've won Afghanistan easy. We would've won every war easy. But we got politically correct. 'Oh, let's take it easy.' We're not politically correct anymore, just so you understand."

This is chilling. My research, and the research of so many of mentors, colleagues, and intellectual role models, would violate this “compact.”

🚨 BREAKING 🚨: The Trump administration is planning citywide sweeps of dozens of homeless encampments in DC starting tonight.

“Arrests will occur at night, in an effort to avoid news cameras,” Jesse Rabinowitz, communications director at National Homelessness Law Center, said via email.

Buttigieg is increasingly a profound disappointment. If I need a white dude to bear the Dems’ banner, give me Beto.
Pod Save America: Do you think it's time to recognize a Palestinian state?

Pete Buttigieg: I think that that's a profound question that arouses a lot of the biggest problems that have happened with Israel's survival, Israel's right to survival, in the diplomatic scene.

Hello, I’m an English professor in film. Since I’m a woman, I don’t exist.
Hello, I'm a historian in a film. My office is a massive space filled with Persian rugs, leather couches and massive wooden bookcases. There's a Tiffany lamp on my desk and an original Gutenberg Bible on a stand next to it. I am wearing a tweed suit with five layers.
Hello, I'm a historian in a film. I am teaching a college course in American history, and for a lecture midway through the semester I have written the words "Spanish-American War," "New Deal," and "17th Amendment" on the chalkboard, and nothing else.

Epstein & bank accounts
July 28, 2025 at 7:18 AM
Hmmm… let me put my thinking cap on here. Why would Trump offer a pardon to Epstein’s gf and keeper of Epstein s secrets? 🤷‍♀️ it sure is a head scratcher.
2 points here:

1) There's no statute of limitations in New York for Ghislaine Maxwell's crimes (maybe also options in New Mexico and Florida). A pardon can't stop state prosecutions.

2) We just got another reason to release the Epstein files: so the public can test Maxwell's truthfulness.

Hirsch leaving is not just bad for Columbia but for the girl at large. I look to her analysis often in my own work. Her views are absolutely needed.
“We learn by making analogies,” [Marianne] Hirsch said. “Now the university is saying that’s off-limits. How can you have a university course where ideas are not up for discussion or interpretation?”

Hirsch, daughter of two Holocaust survivors, is now thinking of leaving the classroom altogether.

At what point will his handlers step in and tell him that the more he does stuff like this to deflect, the guiltier he looks?

But then again, MAGA doesn’t actually care about punishing pedos. And honestly, I’m beginning to think it’s a MUCH bigger problem among Republicans than I thought.

Shout this from the rooftops!

When the right talks about intellectual diversity in higher ed, what they really mean is they don’t like conservative views being challenged.
Also completely ignorant of higher ed economics. Our College of Liberal Arts brings more money into the univ than any other college, because we teach the most credits. And yet we're the lowest paid. Business and engineering are the highest paid, and those colleges are packed with conservatives.
Another defense of "intellectual diversity" that doesn't reckon with what this would mean in the areas that most students at U.S. universities study, such as engineering, business, health sciences, computer science, data science, economics, etc.
