Someone commented on one of my AL posts saying nudity/fan-service of minors in anime is fine because most shows are made for kids, and I’m making it weird for saying it’s problematic.
Yikes.

Keke, 35, lives in a tiny ranch where the prior owner superglued the air vents to the wall and The Grand Budapest Hotel and Epic Drives of the World - two books she was reading while teaching - sit on her tv stand. She live-streams her critiques of baroque art, like a Bright Eyes song come to life.
h/T to @baddestmamajama.bsky.social who did this and really made me laugh:

In the end, don’t we all want the same thing?
A mossy haunted cottage in the woods, tea and snacks to share with the wild forest folk, and a lending library of books that would make the old gods blush?

I keep seeing a lot of articles like:

"Arc Raiders is great BUT... I stand against using AI voices! 9/10"

And like, ya'll, if you want to take a stand, maybe don't give it a glowing, positive review with a "but" in it? Just say

"I don't play games that use AI slop. 0/10"

Simple. Effective. Done.

Not to be the fun police but I do hope people know that Arc Raiders does use generative AI for voice acting, and by supporting the game you're letting higher-ups know that this is an okay practice.

They try to downplay this on the Steam store page by describing the AI usage as vaguely as possible.

There is something really wrong with people who need workers to be not just competent, but slavishly fake-happy. "Slavishly" used on purpose, bc that's where this grotesquerie comes from.
"Store employees are now required to smile if they are within 10 feet of a shopper.

They also must make eye contact with and wave to or greet the customer.

If they’re within four feet, the employee should ask how the customer’s day is going or if they need help."

🙄 Won't stop the boycott, y'all.
Target is now requiring its employees to smile more
As the holiday season fast approaches, Target is urging its employees to add a little more “jolly” to their work routine.

as long as we always remember the context behind the quote: supporting the basic human rights and dignity of trans folk
I feel like we have the opportunity to turn David Lynch's quote into this moment's "Keep Calm and Carry On" and it's a far better rallying cry too.

Good literary translation requires understanding (language, culture, genre--on both sides of the translation) and an ability to write well. "AI" can't do that. There are no shortcuts. Treat your work and foreign language readers with the respect they deserve. You won't fool anyone with this.
