Statement from MP Will Greaves on X/Twitter (I know, I know, not popular on here)
January 13, 2026 at 3:39 AM
Update: The response from the office of Evan Solomon (typed in the alt text) is...uninspiring. This is not a serious person. "Platforms and AI developers have a responsibility to take reasonable steps." My guy, you know who else might have that responsibility?

My MP's twitter posts average in the 100s of impressions. Instead of banning X, he would rather his posts reach 2% of his constituents even if it means the proliferation of sexual abuse of minors. Legitimately indefensible.
Political figures won't leave X because the conversation starts and ends with: "We have ### followers, sacrificing our audience is too risky"

These people are risk averse, they make decisions based on what feels least risky. They will only leave X when they start fearing blowback and PR headaches
The CBC has just posted a transcript of my recent As it Happens interview about X and Grok. I’m posting a couple of screen shots here - since they are a bit too long for alt text, I’ll post the link to the full transcript below. #cdnpoli #X #Grok #yeg #CSAM

If the right can come to power using invented conspiracies about pedo's in gov't harming children, the left should be able to succeed doing the same with actual evidence of the gov't protecting and working with pedophiles, no?
So Evan Solomon vows to “protect Canadians, especially women and young people” from harm on X, but concedes he isn’t prepared to actually take action to stop X from harming people
Canada not considering a ban on X over deepfake controversy, AI minister says

Not pissing off Elon Musk and Canada’s right-wing tech bros is far more important to Evan Solomon than protecting Canadians from deepfake sexual abuse and acting on child sexual abuse material.
The concept of posting “Canada is not considering a ban of X” as a QUOTE of your post condemning deepfake sexual abuse happening **ON X** of women and kids………….

What a beautiful but gut-wrenching sentiment. I'm not sure if it happened earlier, and it probably took too long, but the real heartache came for me after reading Tanya Talaga's "7 Fallen Feathers." That book shattered me.
Remembering today that having your heart broken is a necessary step on the path to becoming fully human. Whichever heartbreak is your first, it’s probably critical that a state break your heart so that you can develop a political imagination. If this is your first, I’m sorry and also welcome.

Teachers know what kids need – more time, more support, and more resources. Add your voice and tell government it’s time to deliver on better classroom conditions.

This is better (and certainly more polite) than my email to Minister Solomon and my local MP.

Everyone, write the minister and your MP. This should be an easy call, the politicians just need to feel like public support is behind them.

In Canada, call or email Evan Solomon and demand he do his job as “Minister of AI and Digital innovation” to stop the CSAM and non-consensual porn. X should be banned in this country.

Kinda crazy that Twitter has basically become 4Chan but all of the most powerful people in the world still post there. Honestly nuts.

Gotta say, if I were a Canadian politician, I would be very careful about praising Donald Trump for illegally bombing an oil-rich country and arresting its leader on what are pretty much imaginary allegations of narco trafficking

How does the CBC not reference in the invasion of Iraq when Trump has explicitly stated the desire to acquire Venezuela's oil? Or the decades of American meddling in countries around the world? Seems relevant to me! www.cbc.ca/news/world/t...
