Americans want to think there is a technological solution to everything because it is a relatively clean and sterile path as opposed to investing in human beings. One of these things briefs well and the other does not, even if it's true.
At the Modern Warfare Conference today, really nice to hear a senior ARSOF leader plead for fewer tech gizmos to be inflicted on Rangers/SF/SMUs.

(Does he lack Hustle Grindset? Did he not hear about 9-9-6? Did he read UNIT X?)

In some of the debates that appeared from AUG 22-DEC 23 which saw Russian and Ukraine attempt offensives against various levels of hasty or prepared defenses it seemed a lot of US Army analysis was focused on well they didn’t do combined arms and then everyone nodded their head and that was the end

The M1 rifle was arguably the best infantry rifle in the war (everyone else was still using bolt action rifles). The Essex class carriers were the best carriers of the war. US artillery systems were first rate and could easily match anything the Axis could muster

Tom Clancy would have been just an incredible poster. He'd have 500k followers and a name like "TomCatOSINT" or something. He'd have 100 tweet threads on Russian carrier tactics that end with recommendations on the best places in the Barents to place tactical nuclear mines.

(we actually do have successive obstacle belts in depth over 50-60 kilometers now. We + NTC are taking notes lol). I think yes and no. Yes, AirPower will get you a lot, but I think the fundamental problem is, this isn’t the open desert, which means you can’t put an entire tank CO in a SBF to 2/x

Incredible website identifying “woke” officers who need to be purged from the Army. Includes the former commander of Delta Force, a former Delta squadron commander, a 101st battalion commander from the battle of Ramadi, and an Iraq surge 2/75 Ranger company commander www.restorethemilitary.com/army/

There's something darkly funny about how the not stupid military commentators response to "How would the US military break the stalemate in Ukraine?" was "we wouldn't fight like this" and our SecDef is determined to make us fight like that
I used to just be annoyed by bad defense reporting but now it’s actively harmful because it informs these jagoffs

Casual Russia-haters who found it trendy after 2022 like this guy could never imagine actually doing something non-performative about it. They just prefer to lash out to look serious. I remember wanting Russians dead before it was cool; in 2014.

Traditionally armies recover a lot of their wounded and often do it very quickly (20% of WIA in Korea are good to go within 3 days of being wounded). FPV drones shutting down casevac and forcing a lot more permanent injuries through prolonging the window where the soldier doesn't get care is huge.

Few things have shaped US foreign policy since 2010 like fear of the Russian S-series ADA systems. Syria, Iran, Ukraine. Knowing the CCP, the most likely reaction is “we’re not like those brutes” and then quietly checking to see if anything is sus.

Just today, I’ve talked to two teenage boys and five different parents who all said the same thing: Young men are TERRIFIED right now.

CENTCOM’s big bad wolf that they said all resources must be expanded upon is actually a paper tiger with decent asymmetric capabilities that spent the last two years getting exploded by various radio shack components. Thanks for proving INDOPACOM should actually have the resources.

Good article and not just because I was bribed with a shoutout

The attritionist mania must be tempered. Maybe you can’t win a war in a single battle, but there are many times when you can lose one. War’s hard enough that avoiding catastrophe in battle takes serious effort.
Does battle matter? tactical brilliance? Or is war simply a contest of the last man standing? “The Allure of Battle” offers a tour de force through history arguing that battle rarely decides the outcomes of conflict. But is this true? Do economics, more stuff, and attrition always win? My latest⬇️
