“The appetite for jumping into Venezuela right now is pretty low,” one oil industry source told CNN. “The president’s desire is different than the industry’s. And the White House would have known that if they had communicated with the industry prior to the operation.”

Get your flu vaccine! And corona is still with us

Via @wired.com: “During the three years of the coronavirus pandemic, the influenza epidemic was largely suppressed. As a result, it is possible that population immunity to the virus was reduced.”

What Is the ‘Super Flu’ That Is Spreading in Europe and the United States?
The “super flu” behind outbreaks in the US and UK is a new variant of influenza A H3N2, subclade K. Existing vaccines appear to be insufficiently effective against the virus.

For all that the media has spent years freaking out about what social media does to our brains, I don’t understand why there appears to be little effort to grapple with the fact that these chatbots are, for some not insignificant portion of the population, literally psychosis machines

Happening now: several hundred people are pouring into Chicago's downtown Federal Plaza.

It's 25 degrees outside.

Organizers are leading the crowd in a chant of, "no boots on the ground, no bombs in the air!"

Two protesters hold a large banner reading, "no war for Venezuela oil."

Our Solar System is orbiting the center of our Galaxy at about 220 km/s so in 2025 we collectively traveled something like 7 billion kilometers across the Milky Way. Once in a while, when you have a moment, it’s worthwhile to take a look around, see where you are, and appreciate how far you’ve come.

🔔 US has changed its postmark date rule. It’s not necessarily when mail is first received but when first processed. If you want a postmark on dropoff date, you have to get it from the counter. Important from taxes, ballots & more!
