New book of economic history dropped, from my colleague @robertyee.bsky.social.

He shows how the Bank of England helped preserve the City of London as a financial center even during the rise of US hegemony, with lessons about how major economic powers can maintain their dominance.

Ontario has enough family doctors but NOT enough choosing comprehensive care

Alternatives like walk in clinics offer better pay & fewer hours.

BC evened that score
…& family doctors followed
B.C. showed how to fix the family doctor crisis — but Ontario’s not listening www.thestar.com/opinion/cont... @drgorfinkel.bsky.social @thestar.com

Back in 2004 when we visited Madrid, my brother insisted we take the time to go and see Picasso's Guerncia. I understood it as an anti-fascist symbol at the time, but now I cannot stop looking at it.

In an ideal world, we'd say things like "no kid should have to study in a hot classroom." But in the world we live in, you have to justify everything with test scores so: "every 1 degree hotter a classroom is leads to a 1% loss in learning" billfrist.substack.com/p/when-class...
When Classrooms Get Hot: What We Learned Exploring the Hidden Link Between the Environment, Health, and Learning
As both a physician and a policymaker, I’ve spent much of my life asking one central question: How can we help every child reach their full potential?

Solidly researched.
Evidence based.
Incontrovertible.

"An astounding 90% of autistic children consumed either breast milk or formula...ignoring potential confounders, control groups and statistical significance."

Hats off to @integralanswers.bsky.social for the fine work.

Spot the difference:
Johnny: “My grandpa walked me to school because he is retarded.”
Inexperienced Teacher: “Johnny! That is a terrible thing to say! We don’t use words like that!”
Experienced Teacher: “Isn’t it wonderful that grandpa is RETIRED and has time to walk with you?” #Meaningmaking

We have schools in #OntEd with condemned ventilation systems, electrical issues, leaking rooftops, and crumbling walls. Parents of children with special needs are being asked to keep their kids home due to a lack of special education staff. Bill 33 does nothing to solve this.
