Merry Christmas, lovely people. Wishing peace and joy to all, even in the smallest increments. 💖❄

Wow. I know the UK alert texts are necessary, but they are a NIGHTMARE for autistic kids.

Maybe I'm too stupid to understand, but I really don't get the benefit of War. It just... doesn't seem worth it? Like - all that death, and destruction, and for what? Land? Religious satisfaction? Ego?! It just seems so... futile. Life is precious, and fleeting. Why engage in War?

💖Mental health check-in💖

How are we doing, friends?

Where's your head at?

Friendly reminder to drink some water, eat something, and/or take a shower.

It's OK if this week wasn't what you expected; it's OK if you made mistakes or found metaphorical pot holes in your way.

Hugs.

I've realised that I'm "currently reading" at least 6 different books.

Is this... normal?

How many books do you guys have on the go at any one time?

On that note:

Trans authors (I mean authors who are trans, NOT cis people who write about trans people), drop your book links here and I'll try to repost as many as I can throughout the day.

Cis people: Repost trans authors' book links.

Cis people who want to complain about being excluded: gtfo
Being a trans author is fucking weird right now. Hell is actively unfolding all around us but I still need to be like, "hey, everyone, wanna buy my silly little queer book? It won't make anything better, but it's kinda fun?"

So....hey, everyone, wanna buy my silly little queer book?

Very anxiety-laden evening, verging on a panic attack.

Trying to calm the buzzing feelings down enough to sleep, so talk to me.

Tell me your favourite random, everyday memory. 💕 Mine in comments.

That's it. Our #OcTBRChat date's at an end. We're stood by your door saying goodnight in the rain. There's a look that could be taken to mean something, it could be nothing, and yet we'll be thinking about it for the next few days, grinning to ourselves.

This was fun, let's do it again sometime.

Percy Blakeney (aka The Scarlett Pimpernell) because he's both a geek and a revolutionary ninja, and a gentleman, but got a sarcastic side that's spot on. I mean, I swooned when I first read it as a teen, because of how he treats his wife (with love and respect). #OcTBRChat
Question 2...

Adam Brody and Andrew Garfield are getting lots of feed-time as the idealistic romantic partners of the moment (deservedly so, they both seem lovely). So they inspired this question:

What fictional book character would be your ideal romantic lead?

There's usually a happy ending. The best ones are about people being seen for who they are which feels precious.

Ahem. So. First question:

Why do we love romance in our fiction so much?

I wonder if part of it is it adds tension, and often conflict, and therefore story. Maybe I'm weird, but I'm not that interested in reading the HEA; give me the will-they, won't-they tension, the only-one-bed, the I-hate-you-but-also-kinda-wanna-shag-you conflicts. #OcTBRChat

Because it taps into those primal feelings of want and need and love so many have. We get to experience those heart-racing moments with idealistic characters we might not always find in our own lives. And because it's fun!
