one of my most oddball views as an engineer prof is that it's okay to think that the way people build or use a technology is bad, even if the details of the tech are pretty cool, and it's also okay (good, even!) to opt out of using or contributing to harmful tech

It's easy to say that stuff happening now is JUST a DISTRACTION. Cause it seems that way.
I personally feel that everything would have happened regardless of the files, but at a slower pace.
Calling these things distractions reduces their importance.
