Don't be shy about expressing yourself to those you care for.
Say the thing your heart feels.
Give that hug.
Tell them you love them before letting go.
Hold their hand.
Share a memory.
Shed some tears.
Ask the questions.
Dance.
Revel when you find your people.
Treasure friends with all you've got.
Any evening is a lovely one to listen to Peter Murphy's luminously sombre "Marlene Dietrich's Favourite Poem", but perhaps especially so tonight.

"Hot tears flow as she recounts
Her favourite worded token
Forgive me please for hurting so
Don't go away heartbroken, no." 🥀🎥

There's no filmed evidence so you'll just have to trust me, but I busted out a full-on Trojan horse themed showtune called "Greeks Bearing Gifts" when my (Greek) friend tried to give me a present last night. Everyone's eyes went wide with shock, & they busted out in laughter after ~ it was THE BEST.

This is "I know that Jesus is a magic demigod, and the important thing is to show God the respect that he deserves", but actually the story of the Nativity is, "I don't know who this stranger is, but I can see they need help, and I'm going to be compassionate whether he deserves it or not."

You sometimes get a bunch of Christians who fixate on the idea that the manger is where the animals go, and like, "look how humble the origins of Jesus are" or even "look at the disrespect Jesus endured even as a baby" and of course this is all backwards.

The innkeeper isn't the bad guy in the story, he's a *good guy* in the story. He *doesn't have room in his inn* and then *finds a spot for Mary anyway*. And this act of kindness is why Jesus is born in a manger -- warm, dry, safe, surrounded by people that love him -- instead of out in the desert

I am not a Christian of course but like all Americans I have spent my life marinating in Christian mythography, and so around this time of year I have a lot of thoughts about the Nativity and the part where the innkeeper says there's no room in the inn.

Conversely, this could help inform you of where to set a nice plate of treats or other small offering for them to enjoy! 🫖 #witchsky
24 Dec: Feeling a strange presence in your home this Christmas?
Old folklore says an elder twig dipped in oil and floated on water on #ChristmasEve will turn and point to any mischievous spirits or witches hiding away. Keep a birch broom at the ready, and sweep them out the door!

A wonderful Winter Solstice planned including:

🌙 crafting a crescent moon from holly branches
🌙 teaching a friend's daughter to make clove pomanders
🌙 weaving star ornaments out of thread
🌙 gifting a blanket I crocheted to an 80+ year old dynamo of a woman running an animal refuge

Bringing light to this #WinterSolstice, Rick is walking the walk of using his compassion + privilege for good by helping ensure some basic dignities (& love) are available to neighbors in need.

As he says, "neighbors" needn't be limited by proximity. Ultimately, we're all one big Earth-family. 🌍💞
It’s the “season of love and giving”…but this year, doesn’t it seem more like a “season of fear and taking”? Like many of you, I’ve been saddened by the human impact of draconian government budget cuts and how angry many housed Americans are at unhoused Americans.

For an entire community of my down-and-out neighbors, this hygiene center is the only place to take a shower, wash clothes, repair a bike, or get a sweater, blanket, or hot meal…while also enjoying a little bit of community.

Clinging to this Le Guin quote like a life raft rn:

“We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art, and very often in our art, the art of words.”

If you want *more* AI-free results (the cheat code doesn't give more than a page or so) - try DuckDuckGo, and turn off the AI: Start at the wheel control, then scroll to the bottom for "AI Features - Manage."

It's not exactly intuitive or easy to find, but it's doable👍
