This is what makes community great and improves health overall. Hoping to continue to see more positive changes like the 9 line in SLC!
Hard to overstate how transformative the 9 Line Trail has been for Salt Lake City. This May, sensors recorded 37,000 trips by walkers, cyclists, and runners. That’s almost 1,200 people per day, on average. So many cool businesses are popping up along the trail. Kudos to @slcmoves.bsky.social

As an oncologist, this is a horrible idea. Will undoubtedly see increased rates of lung cancer

🚨 There’s a lot of horrific news out of Washington right now—but you might have missed this: Senate Republicans just introduced a plan to sell off 120 million acres of our public lands.

Let me break down what’s in the bill and why it’s a full-scale land grab. 🧵

#Vaccines are one of the greatest public health achievements ever.

☠️ #Smallpox killed ~30% of those infected
📆 300 million lives lost in the 20th century
🚫 Eradicated by 1980 thanks to vaccines

That’s the power of science. #VaccinesWork #PublicHealthWin

🤒 Measles: pneumonia & brain swelling (1/5 hospitalized)
🎗️ HPV: causes >90% of cervical cancers
⏳ Meningitis: fatal in 10%
😮‍💨 Pertussis: deadly for 1/100 infants
🤐 Tetanus: 10% fatal even with treatment

💉 Vaccines prevent all of this. This is what winning looks like.

Aside from the fact that anyone can get seriously ill from COVID, a key point they are deliberately hiding when removing access is that COVID vaccines reduce transmission. People choose to get vaccinated to protect other people. It is wrong and harmful to take that choice away.

44% of all American children benefit from Medicaid or SNAP.

Republicans' budget guts both programs.

Yes: the so-called "party of family values" is putting 34 MILLION kids' health care access and food security at risk.

You don’t have to be a “cyclist” to support safe bike infrastructure in your city. You don’t have to ride bikes at all. You just have to understand the FACT that bike infrastructure makes getting around easier & safer for EVERYONE, saves us all public money, & makes cities generally more successful.

New reality: ICE agents are allowed to conduct raids in hospitals & clinics. ICE agents may pretend they're police to gain access to information or private spaces or lure people to public spaces, but they do not have the authority to do this or to bypass warrant requirements! Essential reading 👇🏾
Allowing ICE in hospitals is a public health catastrophe in the making
Allowing ICE to conduct raids in hospitals and medical clinics is not only cruel; it is a public health catastrophe in the making, writes Eric Reinhart.

Undocumented immigrants paid an effective federal income tax rate of 5.27% in 2022.

That means they paid a higher effective tax rate than 5 of the richest Americans…and a higher effective tax rate than 55 mega corporations.

So let me ask you: who are the real freeloaders?

3 days ago RFK Jr. told the CDC to stop recommending water fluoridation, claiming it was a neurotoxin (this is a lie).

Turns out he also just eliminated the CDC’s entire Lead Program, and now lead poisoned children in Milwaukee are just on their own. Lead IS a neurotoxin and harms brain development
CDC denies help for lead poisoning in Milwaukee schools due to layoffs
The CDC rejected a request for help "due to the complete loss" of their lead poisoning experts.

I worry about the consequences this will have, especially for all those at high risk of complications from the flu
It is unlikely 🇺🇸 will develop flu vaccines for the 2025-26 flu season

“'It’s a 6-month production cycle,' Dr. Offit said. 'So one can only assume that we’re not picking flu strains this year.'"

The cancellation plays into fears among scientists who worry that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will use his position as health secretary to sow doubts about vaccines.

These weren’t lazy bureaucrats doing unimportant work. They were working hard, and often for less money than they could get in the private sector, on key life-saving public health programs.

They were fired to give more money to billionaires.

1. Today the NIH director issued a new directive slashing overhead rates to 15%.

I want to provide some context on what that means and why it matters.
