I just made an account and voted for this biology laboratory made of LEGO to "promote biological research and inspire more people into the world of biology". They need 10K votes. Reposting and/or voting below would be helpful. 🤗

Along with this: it's tempting to collect technical skills like pokemon, and there certainly is focus on work with breadth that rewards this. But don't forget about the value of depth. Hard to do good science without deep understanding of what you're doing. That only comes from years of immersion.
Same with bioinformatics, honestly. Doing a two-month rotation in a lab that uses computation is going to give you a taste, but don't fool yourself into thinking you'll develop meaningful transferrable skill in that time

Unfortunately it’s clear that the Israeli people can’t topple the government or change its ways. Seems like the attorney general, the last gate keeper, will be fired soon. As long as we’re stuck with this government, the war won’t stop. Only international intervention (=the U.S) might do it.

Scientific bedlam at the world’s weirdest and wildest research conference
Woodstock Bio2 + Night Science aimed to encourage collaborations through creativity. The walk-on music for presentations was fun, too.

STUDY: Denmark tracked over a million children for 21 years, and found vaccines linked to zero extra cases of autism, asthma, or 48 other conditions.

Vaccines are safe, effective, and the best way to eradicate preventable disease. Period.

The semiliterate people who use chatgpt like to point to calculators as a precedent of assistive technology but the thing is: calculators actually calculate.

A calculator really does let you outsource calculation. It does exactly what it is supposed to do, and marketed as doing, reproducibly.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

Indeed Oded. Some Will think of #TCTeAC as escapism, but I think it was showing us how beautiful we can make this world if the guiding values are respect & trust, and if world leaders would adopt a vision that is based on hope instead of hatred. On collaboration instead of competition. 💚
