I'd push back on some of this (there are places that could work in V de Mex, but they wouldn't be in the city center), but Antonio nails the main obstacle, namely an investor group willing to make the substantial investments needed. US politics certainly aren't helping, either.
The NBA used to hint at the possibility of Mexican expansion all the time. So why hasn't it happened? @chapulana.bsky.social went deep on the thriving Capitanes, and why their success also may not directly translate to an NBA team:
How did all the talk of NBA expansion leave Mexico behind?
The long-whispered possibility of NBA expansion to Mexico is closer than ever, but still just out of reach.

An anti-tanking measure that came up via friend of the pod Evan T's brilliance was harnessing point differential. Then it struck us maybe just keeping things the same while making it so losses by more than say, 10 points count as lottery wins might do the trick. Thoughts?

This. Nobody is denying excessive tanking is bad, but draft class strength matters, fans of tanking teams mostly get & support it, & this system creates aspects of the league we love, from hope to novelty. It just needs tweaking.

Woke up to an afterparty at my house as a kid that had Clarence Gatemouth Brown over for drinks after a local gig. I had noooooo idea who he was at the time.
I bumped into Steve Aoki at media dining in Sacramento covering a Celtics/Kings game and said “oh my bad man“ and continued on my way.

Did not know who he was in any capacity and had to Google him when Nicole Yang insisted he was famous.

The NBA should consider not incentivizizing losing if they would like teams to try to win every game.

You’re never gonna convince me that players will play harder so a young player can come take their job. Don’t think that’s gonna work either.
I think the concept of lottery wins (you get points for beating teams ahead of you in the standings) is interesting. If combined with extending lottery to 1st round teams and shortened season would help tanking

Soon, we're going to see teams devoting extensive resources on which combinations of players drive losing the most while also not violating policies designed to stop behavior the NBA created and needs.
this is actually kind of insulting to the guys who *did* play, like hey they're all NBA players aren't they? I'm sorry but I hate this shit.
The NBA fined the Utah Jazz $500,000 for conduct detrimental to the league and the Indiana Pacers $100,000 for violating the Player Participation Policy. Full details below.

I ask myself who wants an AI revolution to happen and why, and it's the same people who hate unions, labor rights, and lately, democracy. No thanks, and billionaires should not exist, thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
I think people on the left are the *only* people thinking seriously about this. Also the only people seriously thinking about climate change. Also the only people with a viable solution, which involves guillotining the people who brought us there and then building an entirely new social system.
I understand why people are exhausted by AI hype, and why those of us squarely in the corner of "human dignity uber alles" see AI doomerism as self-serving hype, but I *really* think people on the left broadly need to start thinking seriously about the possibiltiy of the hype being...true.
