Growing up you always think older people hate on the youth because they've forgotten what it's like to be young but it's actually quite the opposite, they remember vividly, which is precisely why they know you're full of shit

It’s Monday, November 17, 2025.

This is your reminder that:

1. We cannot make the United States a Constitutional Republic again unless we unpack the Supreme Court.

2. We cannot make the U.S. a representative democracy without expanding the House and banning partisan gerrymandering.

Someone should go there and show them the clips of Trump's Great Gatsby party. I bet they'd be so happy to know he's having fun.

The government’s actions are entirely opposite of minding a separation of church and state. These are all private citizens, not led by any government officials. This is the state interfering with the practice of religion, if true, and I bet the @aclu.org is getting their boots on as we speak.
The absolute gall of this administration full of Christian dominionists suddenly, well, getting religion on the separation of church and state because clergy is embarrassing them.

(Also obviously they are wrong on both the law and morality)
“During the call, the anonymous representative told a group of faith leaders and activists that ‘There is no more prayer in front of building or inside the building because this is the state and it’s not [of a] religious background.’”

These cowards can’t even talk to clergy face-to-face.

Ooo, I like this strategy! It also incentivizes individuals to resell who can’t make it to the venue.
Hey #econsky,

We keep hearing about ticket resellers being a problem. Artists charge $ and resellers use bots to buy tickets in bulk, selling them for $$$.

What if econ can help? Here's one little trick to stop ticket resellers.

Suggestions for Halloween music to play while handing out candy on our front porch?

Spouse reluctantly agreed to play Dead Man’s Party, telling me he once yeeted the Oingo Bongo CD out of the car when a friend once tried to play it on Halloween.

These assholes are so bad at math. $4200 per year sounds like a lot in sum. But:

$4200/year = ~$81/week
$81/week = ~$11.50 per day
$11.50/day = $3.85 cents per meal.

That figure is per household so that’s supposed to feed more than one person.

Not exactly lobster and steak.

The definition of public servant.

And yes, time to go back to using that term, and using it proudly
Here in Seattle, furloughed NOAA employees were out in the pouring rain cleaning up beaches yesterday, part of a national week of service organized by federal workers who can't do their jobs due to the shutdown.

Story by @heyjohnryan.bsky.social at KUOW, our federally defunded public radio station.

This begs to be asked: Why are the people currently in power acting as if they will never be out of power?
If AG Pam Bondi is showing a faint twitch or two of reluctance about indicting Trump's enemies without an actual case, don't jump to integrity as an explanation; she might just be aware of what happened to Nixon's AG John Mitchell, who served 19 months in prison for his conduct during Watergate.

The Trumpist majority on SCOTUS, like Trump himself, is spending down a trust fund they did not create, apparently believing it refills automatically. But it doesn’t. The whole system depends on other key institutions treating their rulings as legitimate.
It seems like federal district courts are in full revolt against SCOTUS. I've never seen such direct scathing criticism of SCOTUS like this from the bench over their shadow docket rulings quietly overturning precedent without explanation.

From the Harvard decision today.

You don’t only have to believe that the government never lies. You also have to believe that the government never makes mistakes.
If you ever find yourself drifting towards the idea that public defenders, legal aid lawyers, and pro bono/sliding scale/movement lawyers are bad people for representing rapists or murderers or con artists or whatever, just keep in mind that is true only if you conclude the government never lies.
