ROCKSTAR UPDATE:

Keir Starmer was just asked about the Rockstar firings in Parliament today where he described the situation as "deeply concerning" and promised it would be looked into by government ministers.

Not that a Starmer promise is worth much, mind.

What society thinks disabled people want to hear:
“You’re so brave!”
“We look past your disability!”

What disabled people actually want to hear:
“We acknowledge your disability and will happily accommodate your needs.”
“You can marry without losing your benefits.”
“We’d like to offer you the job.”

I’m glad to see, for a change, that the takeaway is “clearly we need more resources” instead of “we need to stop diagnosing / recognising so many people”. Less diagnosis doesn’t mean less need, it means less needs being met.

If an old dog with sausage fingers (me) can write alt-text for all their image posts then it can't be that hard.

An odd argument attempting to justify inaccessibility is that building things accessibly would only benefit a minority of the population. However, that is not the case at all.

More people benefit from accessibility than inaccessibility.

I need space between tasks. I need time to transition.

I can’t just jump from one thing to another, and that’s not laziness—it’s how my brain works.

Monotropism isn’t a deficit. It’s just a different type of focus.

Disabled people should not have to conduct an in-depth research analysis on the accessibility of every new place they wish to visit.

This is a huge pet peeve of mine:

The Inventory tab has a 'new' marker on it, yet no category has a 'new' marker and after going through all of them... I can't find any new items and the marker won't go away.

Please, my OCD requires that I am able to make the 'new' marker go away 😓

When I didn’t have “I’m autistic” I had “I need a minute”, “I don’t understand”.

I had a lot of ways to communicate my needs. Better than what to many is a vague medical label.

I was still autistic.

#AutismAcceptance means accepting all autistic people, not just ones with “certificates”.

It’s so so so awesome that there’s a lot of positivity around autistic traits in Bones, and it’s so important for autistic representation in media to exist and not just hint. The only way you convince folks it’s not a dirty word is by saying it out loud, not hiding it, what a shame on the network
For #AutismAcceptance month ...

Since this time last year, the cast & crew of Bones have come out that Bones was presented as Autistic and intended to be written as openly Autistic.

However it was a network decision not to talk openly about Autism in the show.
Why Bones Is Never Officially Diagnosed As Autistic In The Show

Accessibility features aren’t doing much if players don’t know about them! It’s great that Nintendo are including, and making sure we know about, system level accessibility for the Switch 2!
Nintendo is NOT kidding around anymore, they legit have a whole webpage dedicated to the accessibility of the new Switch 2 👏🏻❤️

This console has the potential to write history!

Dan with our semi-weekly reminder that autism is way fuckin cooler than the measles
It's weird as a biologist to say "ignore the science part" but here we are

Science: Vaccines don't cause autism.

BUT IT DOESN'T MATTER. If vaccines caused autism I would still recommend them. Dying of preventable disease is bad. Autism isn't a disease and most of the "bad" of autism is society.

I frankly find it toxic that on Instagram the culture of the autistic community is leaning towards everyone having to prove their disability. Proving disability or being obligated to perform it has always been detrimental to disability advocacy as far as I'm concerned

Reminder: Alt Text is a disability aid. It is meant to convey the images to people with vision impairments. Describe what the image is. If it’s text, modern phone and desktop OSes let you copy and paste it from an image.

They’re not a place to hide a zinger, or for snark.
