In Europe and Asia, where rail networks are strong and cities have one or multiple strong urban centers, railway stations and city center squares are the "naturally occurring" transit hubs.

North America tries to cope for the lack of "natural" centralities by creating ones for transit artificially.

AOC: What we saw today was a criminal murder a woman while she was trying to flee for her life. What we saw today was a manifestation of every American’s worst nightmare: their government turning into a tyranny.

"The Secret Agent" is great, and I really want every shirt worn by Wagner Moura in this film.

A phenomenal, kind of messy and expansive piece of cinematic art. It really captures the human spirit that is the root of community and society even in the face of repression.

I had surgery recently and the hospital gown had a built in heating pad. That type of innovation is totally better than socialized medicine
american innovation continues unabated

hey remember when a bunch of middle-aged drunk korean lawmakers climbed the locked gates to the national assembly to hold an emergency session after the president gave illegal orders to the military, all of which ended with said president being sentenced to prison

All time fuck up for the Nobel peace prize to go to her.
María Corina Machado, the leader of the Venezuelan opposition and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, said Maduro faces “international justice.”

“Given his refusal to accept a negotiated solution, the United States government has fulfilled its promise to enforce the law.”

Smart proposal here from Charles Komanoff, one of the architects of Manhattan congestion pricing.

Policies like this can prevent AVs from causing crushing gridlock if/when they scale. The best time to implement them is now, before they're widespread.

California's fundamental flaw is that Proposition 13 hands the wealthiest people in the state a massive tax break while also cutting off a stable revenue source. Instead, we raise money from progressive income taxes which raise lots when the economy is good and little when it's bad.

The dirty little secret know one wants to talk about is that we need to raise everyone’s taxes (except the absolute poorest) to afford the society we need.
This is partly why I mount a lonely rearguard defense of some user fees for public services. “Just tax the rich” is in fact not a good replacement for them, any more than it is a replacement for broad-based income taxes. The point of wealth taxes on the top is negative: to destroy fortunes.
