I think the NDP messaging on their vote is wildly disingenuous: No honesty about not wanting to go into an election without a leader or money, claiming they unequivocally voted against the budget while simultaneously explaining why they ensured enough abstentions for it pass, etc, etc.

There’s a fine line between finding a compromise to make parliament work, and compromising your values for political expediency. We’ll see what this is as details come out.
"Against what I had expected to say to you today, I'm going to vote yes—for the country, for the planet, and for my hope in the future," says Green Party Leader Elizabeth May, announcing that she will vote in favour of the minority Liberal government's budget.

Opposition MPs allowing the budget to pass out of fear the Libs might win a majority in a subsequent election by allowing the Libs to rule like they have a majority.
If the budget does fail that would be 100% on the Libs due to Carney's refusal to negotiate.

pretty funny in retrospect that QAnon hinged on the idea that powerful elites at the highest levels of government were smart enough to talk in code when sending emails to each other about their despicable crimes

I’m really getting sick of how the media is playing this as if everyone involved doesn’t know exactly what happened and we just need a few more pieces of incriminating evidence to finally put together that Trump is a child rapist.

Canada’s debt is modest, self-financed, and stable. Yet we are told to accept austerity as the “responsible” path forward. Deficit panic is really a strategy to limit what’s politically imaginable—universal services, public housing, and climate action.
The deficit is not an economic problem—it’s a political weapon
Mark Carney’s new budget exposes how Canada’s political class weaponizes the deficit to protect elites and justify austerity. Despite alarmist rhetoric, Canada’s debt is modest and self-financed. The ...

Canada is retreating from its international assistance commitments in Budget 2025. Details are vague except for cutting $2.7 Billion in aid spending between 2026 and 2030.

A missed opportunity for Canada to redouble efforts in face of American abandonment of aid.

Looking at the Carney budget that just dropped:
- slashing 40,000 public sector jobs
- watering down Trudeau-era climate promises
- $59 billion in new military spending
- tax writeoffs for big businesses
- cuts to foreign aid

Yeah I can see why a Conservative would want to join the Conservatives

At the end of the day I'm not sure how much difference it makes. But it is striking to put out a budget that axes a luxury tax on yachts and adds a co-pay for refugee claimants accessing drugs and dental care.

Liberals are portraying this as a positive but all I see is two parties so indistinguishable in policy that a life long Conservative will cross over because they may differ in messaging but the end result will be the same. #cdnpoli
