“I’ve often said this and I don’t think I’m exaggerating too much: America may be the only country that hates art. Money is the only thing that’s considered a healthy habit. Art is considered neurotic, or it just shows that you have problems, whereas having money is somehow seen as totally healthy.”
In Dreams: An Interview With Jonathan Rosenbaum
Frank Falisi talks with film writer Jonathan Rosenbaum about putting our selves in criticism and reclaiming art and pleasure for all people.

RIP Claudia Cardinale. Much like Robert Redford, she was a rare case of a beautiful performer with a filmography full of bangers who did NOT become right-wing later in life. Here she is punching fascist Brigitte Bardot in the face in Les Pétroleuses (1971).

new to bluesky? confused? if it helps, just think of it as a framework for understanding texts against an organized background of the circulation of other texts, all interwoven not by citational references but by the incorporation of a reflexive circulatory field in the mode of address & consumption

Weiss's lack of professionalism is an important asset in her role, because professional norms are a kind of collective action by the staff. "This is how one runs a newsroom" or "this is how we've always done tings" are sources of authority independent of ownership. Her job is to knock all that down.

Today's newsletter is about The Bottle Tapes, an incredible new 6CD set of live avant-jazz recordings, and about the difference between the New York and Chicago music scenes:

You might question her methods, but credit to Bari Weiss: her leadership has pushed 60 Minutes into new formats and attracted a bunch of new viewership outside the normal broadcast audience.
here's the 60 minutes cecot video part 1 of 5 - recorded/uploaded by and all credit to @jasonparis.bsky.social

I just reduced background noise, chopped the 14 minutes into 3 minute segments each compressed under 100 mb for bsky's limits, cropped and rotated a few degrees for easier viewing on here

The Olivia Nuzzi story and the Bari Weiss at CBS story are the same story, which is that the upper echelons of legacy media are absolutely rife with people who worship power and don't feel burdened by any sense of responsibility to their profession or the public.
