statistically speaking (and based off the articles) it is a near certainty that thousands of people currently patrolling the streets in Minnesota are people who did not immediately believe the warnings of the left 10 years ago. I see very little criticism of *them* on here
Bluesky idea: if people who didn't agree with you change their opinions so that they do agree with you, why not be happy that you are making progress - rather than complaining that they are "only just catching up"?

and, for what it's worth, there is also such a thing as wasting too much time beating up the dude who made the mistake.

needing to vent is normal, and mistake makers make for an easy target, but try and turn that rage back to the battles at hand once you feel like you got it out.

not productive: "here's all the reasons you should be understanding about why I was wrong."

productive: "I was wrong. you were right. how can I help now?"

and then STOP trying to get people to stop being mad at you. they're going to be mad a while. that's okay. just eat it and try to do better.

An average person I will happily welcome into the fold

If you’re a political pundit who’s been paid for their opinions and you’re just now admitting you’ve been wrong about the GOP for a decade and were responsible for getting us here?

Fuck you. Let’s see you return your salary first.

Everyone on the right talking about invoking the insurrection act is picturing a big button that says FUCK LIBS TRUMP ROCKS, you hit it and then the confetti drops and all the baristas’ hair returns to its natural color.
Curious if anyone has a plausible theory of victory for the administration if it were to invoke the Insurrection Act.

How does the administration "win" in such a scenario?

Best I can tell, it is magical thinking by a certain somebody at the White House, but maybe I'm missing something.

He has a constituency. It is just not many average voters. Spend some time with political operatives/journos/pols who are over 60 in DC. In private, they complain about AOC and “wokeness” as much as Trump/MAGA. (And to be fair, plenty of elite Dems 40-60 have these same sentiments.)
Yeah, it make absolutely no sense to interview him about the "future of the party" unless you just agree with what you know he's going to say. He has no constituency and no novel ideas.

And somehow, not one of those 25 posts includes reliable information about how to help people in Minneapolis.

AltNPS shared a link to one weird, viral GoFundMe with no apparent connection to Pretti's family, and that's it:
why did keith edwards set up a gofundme was set up for alex pretti when has no connection to his family and did not get their permission to do it? so fucking shady

AltNPS posted about Alex Pretti's murder 25 times since this morning. During that time, they spread misinformation about the shooting, lied about knowing the shooter's name, and generally flooded the zone with shit.

They're trying to milk this story for all it's worth.

I get that our universities are bound by their institutional neutrality on weighing in on partisan questions like whether it’s okay for armed paramilitaries to shoot civilians dead on the street. It’s the sort of thing an institution committed to the truth couldn’t possibly weight in on. (1/2)

It’s no comfort, but the official DHS line being “he can be killed by masked agents of the state because he had a legal gun” is such an interesting new frontier in how Trump has made the conservative movement very publicly and embarrassingly abandon every principal it once claimed.

On the execution in Minnesota: Obviously, the individuals involved should be held accountable. But responsibility goes to the top of ICE and CBP, and DHS. Their appropriations come up next week in the senate. Not a cent for DHS without pulling ICE and CBP off the streets, in MN and everywhere else.

As I’ve said a billion times, there is no border crisis, there is a policy crisis. There was a fucking trillion dollars invested in enforcing an immigration policy that has gone from crisis to catastrophe under this administration.
Once again, immigration is not even a problem. Immigrants are not more criminal, they don't cost jobs, they don't harm the economy. There is no reason for any of this. It is hurting ourselves to hurt them.
