I really don't get the whole "robot maid" thing.

*If* AI takes off (enough to make humanoid robots work) there will be plenty of unemployed people willing to clean your house for much less than the price of metal and lithium batteries.

I guess tech overlords might prefer robots to poor people

I have a feeling it's going to be a heartwarming Halloween this year. We need it.

New short story. My challenge today was to pack in 2 character arcs in about half a page.

These CEOs and tech reporters in their bubble sound like people who watched Star Trek as a kid and assume we are minutes away from getting transporters because we invented a cool new microwave.

I get so frustrated hearing from "real" tech experts about the risk of creating sentient AI.

It's like being so worried that you are going to cheat on your wife with Taylor Swift. It's not going to happen man. That's not on the table!

This is how I want to go out, testing out a theory I had for a device 1,000 years before the first commercially successful models.

I’d like to thank my wife.

I’d like to NOT thank my fourth grade english teacher who NEVER believed in me, then there’s the barista who misspelled my name and ruined a whole day of writing when I didn’t have my coffee. Of course then there’s my dumb kids who ALWAYS need to eat...
books should have an anti-acknowledgements section where the author talks shit about all the people who fucked them over while they were trying to write the thing. not bc I personally want to write one but bc I love gossip
Tell me your most unhinged literary opinion, as a little treat

Today, I'd like to say-

The Taino were the people of Borinquen. Borinquen was later renamed to Puerto Rico.

Some Taino words remain today.

Words like hurakán = hurricane, barbacoa = barbeque.

The Taino greeting is

Taino-ti

Which means - "I greet you with love because you are family."

You guys. I'm on cloud 9 right now. My book is "done" (with beta readers right now, needs a lot more work) and it's good!

Good enough to be published? Who knows. Better than I thought it would be!

On to start planning the next one!

This is amazing really
if you want to understand tailoring, you only need to watch mid-century movies, when actors were dressed by tailors, not brands. in the 1944 film cover girl, gene kelly's suit drapes beautifully, moving with him, not against him. collar stays on his neck, even as he dances.

they don't have the capacity to compel obedience by violence.

the only lever by which they can obtain obedience is fear.

do not offer it to them.

Holy shit

"To put it in abstract economic terms: The opportunity cost of retaining Musk as CEO is selling more cars. But the returns to the company’s stock price for being near Musk’s money pile swamp the returns that would accrue from selling more cars."
The market is saying that TSLA is a $1 trillion company selling 1.5m cars w/ Elon as CEO; but might only be a $50 billion if it sold 4.5m cars w/ Satya Nadella as CEO.

What does it mean if the market is correct about this? www.thebulwark.com/p/elon-musk-...
