It is such an honor to hold this space for my friend Tamara in Gaza and for my fellow Korean adoptees. Love and solidarity!

This is such an intensely beautiful poem. ❤️‍🩹
My first-ever published poem was also the most emotionally vulnerable writing I've ever put onto a page. Thank you Blue Earth Review for selecting "post- and pre-" as the 2024 Minnesota BIPOC Emerging Writer Award runner-up in poetry! #adopteevoices

Adopting someone else's baby, as something you actually want and actively seek out, is just really weird if you think about it. Like, those people who say shit like, "Since I was a child, I wanted to adopt." Weird. Ew. Omg, wtf?

a pro-family-preservation politics that is not strongly pro-abortion makes no sense to me. And I reject a politics that calls itself “pro-family” but is not strongly pro-family-preservation.

I grew up in a family culture that didn't value education, escaped, moved across the country, and got college 3 degrees that changed my life. Being working class w/no support from my adopters, I did it w/loans and working a ton. I ended up w $168K of student loan debt though I borrowed around $80k.

For those who've been away from BlueSky for a few days and are trying to figure out what the hell happened, here's the recent event that sparked the ongoing protest, and you can read about everything that led up to it earlier on Aveta's thread.
Update to include recent incidents:

Bluesky allowed a user for **sixteen days** have n—er as a handle https://bsky.app/profile/aliafonzy.bsky.social/post/3k2ehnd7m5y2y

It got taken down after raising this alarm
. . . :/

But safe space huh lol

agree the terminology needs work but the idea is to only post about the issue until the issue is sufficiently acknowledged and resolved. and imo that makes sense.
I see people talking about a "posting strike" so i just want to let everyone know there's no such thing as a posting strike. Those two words don't go together

The idea that content moderation is the last refuge of fragile people rests on the confused idea that speech is “just words,” and it shifts the moral onus from the racists and bigots who target others for abuse and onto those targeted. This isn’t centrism, it’s reactionary.
I think one ought be strong enough, rather than so fragile, that if they see a rando's username with a bad word in it, they can roll their eyes and ignore them, mute, whatever. I don't think "Any user being rude or childish is a gross lapse of the dev team" is a viable way to run communication tech.

Severing a child from their parent through adoption, said Jean Paton, an adoptee, “is a social death.” Early in her career as a social worker she arranged two relinquishments, and they filled her with guilt. “We are playing funeral, and no one is dying.”

People are such weirdos because most kept people would never want to be adopted or lose their kids because, for themselves, they can imagine how painful it would be -- yet they fight tooth and nail with adopted people that we should be grateful.

As an adopted person, should I be grateful that I dont know if today is my birthday? That I could have a mother, or an entire family, grieving for me today and I won't know? That my birth, in many ways, meant loss, loss, and more loss? 🎂🤷🏻‍♀️
