ACT-UP/KC was a Kansas City-based HIV/AIDS activist group in the 1990s that used bold, confrontational tactics to demand action from city officials, drug companies, and health organizations.

If Jesus had focused more on kitchen table issues and less on unpopular outcasts like lepers and prostitutes, he might have won more support from white working-class Judeans.

When walking back from a friend’s house last night, I saw this as the state of the transit center at 39th and Troost. I get that this is at 10pm on a Friday, but can the KCATA provide trash cans? Can they make the building attractive for customers? Can they be a good neighbor to me and my neighbors?

Lots of people driving the wrong way down the one way streets this morning downtown in their suburbatanks. I would love to see a vent diagram of this crowd and the “I don’t go downtown crowd” because of parking.

When the Beyond the Loop study was underway in 2017-18, KCK officials opposed the plan. Today those officials are gone, and new leadership is interested in reimagining I-70.
KCK's mobility plan actually talks about the future of the North Loop and how they might reimagine or repurpose their portion of I-70 in response to North Loop removal.

Please note that “BRT light” was not studied in this example and and based on how RideKC BRT is designed, would not contribute to the decrease in crashes observed in the Albuquerque example. We would need to actually be serious about the region’s BRT infrastructure to start to see these results.
New paper finds that Bus Rapid Transit improves street safety:

"The construction of Albuquerque Rapid Transit correlated with significant reductions in crashes attributed to excessive speed (for all modes) and left turning vehicles (for all modes and pedestrians)."

Fare-free transit is not an environmental policy. The reason is simple: It doesn't reduce driving.

"We find no evidence that low-cost or free-of-charge public transportation financing schemes have improved air quality."

It seems hard to rank the sustainability of a suburb when the suburban framework of city building is inherently unsustainable.

KCATA’s head addresses the limits of micromobility and the need to be rider forward with decision-making relative to cost and outcome. It starts with regional funding for transit so one contracted client does not have control over most transit operation decisions.
My latest in Bloomberg CityLab:

Kansas City is a pioneer using microtransit, one of the hottest ideas in public transit.

But KCATA chief Frank White told me microtransit’s costs are astronomical, 10x more than a fixed-route bus. He thinks the hype is overblown.
