Zoning liberalization is no panacea. Full price elasticity of shelter is unprovable. If housing is not feasible for profit extraction, perhaps the problem is profit itself. Doesn’t seem like YIMBY is as progressive as it markets itself to be.

Austin is an example of a particular speculative housing market crashing; vacancies are trying to be filled with concessions (but only on “luxury” units, still mostly unaffordable) so rent payments can possibly cover losses on land value and capital costs from monetary austerity.
Austin is seeing the same thing happen: new supply come on the market and rental prices go down.
