Practicing some increases and decreases. It is super weird trying to find tutorials since I knit continental combination style, which means for instance a k2tog is a left leaning dec, not a right leaning one. And my ssk is formed differently (& right leaning)

Any advice/ tips? #knitsky 🧶 #craftsky

This makes me think of what the author of Braided Sweetgrass explains about the difference between white and Indigenous land preservation frameworks: the former believe nature must be left completely alone, while the latter work careful stewardship practices, which includes working with the land
Will removing livestock from historically grazed grasslands increase the carbon these lands store in their soil? Maybe not. A study finds that un-grazed grasslands in the UK have lower levels of stable, mineral-associated carbon than grazed plots. In PNAS: https://ow.ly/M1fi50YbGvi

Another resistance quilt finished this week. The eye is my own design, the letters are a fpp pattern by QuiltByNight, the rounded corners and black binding are meant to resemble the phones we the people are using to document the horrors and disprove the government’s lies about what they are doing.

Had to rip a few rounds back again bc I messed up the stitch pattern, but now I'm done with the decreases for the ankle. Gonna let it sit for a bit :)

This.
I've certainly directed a lot of anger at performative activism. And I stand by that.
Because, what matters is the context. In a moment where wearing a rainbow badge doesn't cost you anything and it's the only thing you do, like when you're living in a metropolis and moving only in queer or
We are living through a movement moment whose workings must not be wholly visible, even though the movement itself must be visible. That's complicated. Fashion will be part of it.

Aaaaaaah, please go read Jane Pek's Claudia Lin murder mystery/industry espionage/literary meta musing/AI dating platform series so she goes and writes the next one, I beg you!
Made me stay up till 5am with my newly cast on sweater until I could finally rip myself away and go to sleep. #booksky🏳️‍🌈

I used to contract for one of J&J's other medical device companies, DePuy Synthes, and given what I experienced developing "training" for sales reps & surgeons (which I figured out was just product marketing disguised as education) I am never more glad that I quit. This was a harrowing read.
“Researchers from Johns Hopkins, Georgetown and Yale universities recently found that 60 FDA-authorized medical devices using AI were linked to 182 product recalls, according to a research letter published in the JAMA Health Forum in August.”
As AI enters the operating room, reports arise of botched surgeries and misidentified body parts
Medical device makers have been rushing to add AI to their products. While proponents say the new technology will revolutionize medicine, regulators are receiving a rising number of claims of patient ...

More letters to come...

Attached them during our transfemme meetup, my first in over a year. We finally got a new place and someone was there for the first time.
You don't usually see what happens before, but it's literal years of self doubt after decades of shame.

One of my fav designers, yiğitcan/pufidoknits, has just released their new sweater pattern. It's a circular yoke, and from what I can see in the tester projects, it fits really nicely across the size range, so I decided to give the circular yoke another chance ^^

Apology accepted.

Forgiveness , patience and grace for trans women even ones who hurt me is a core value of my invariant feminist core and value system and by being spiteful towards transsexual women even ones who participated in my smear campaign.

I’d be just as bad.

I have the slight suspicion that the fact that I'm improvising a fair isle pattern while doing both the inc/dec and the ladderback in my head while listening to a complex murder mystery (The Verifiers & Rivals, by Jane Pek, *very* good!) points to my brain desperately wanting sth to do 😅
It's fun^^
