Book 3 of 2026 in the bag, and holy shit… Neil Postman’s Amusing Ourselves to Death is going to sit with me for a very long time

Been meaning to read this for ages, and one of those books whose conceit I felt like I had a pretty good handle on & knew I’d probably agree with before reading but damn…

Does Jenrick get to have a ‘I am and have always been a…’ moment on Kuenssberg this Sunday?

Anyone used the Behringer TD3, their 303 clone? Just seen its like €100 which seems ridiculous and could just live on my desk to bang out acid riffs when I need a break from work

Your regular reminder that you can in fact tackle sensitive and thorny political and societal issues with board games and they can even be fun to play, only thing is you need to actually give it some thought, care and attention

Was the Norsefire logo trademarked already?
Ukip have submitted a new logo and slogan to the Electoral Commission, swapping the £ pound sterling symbol for a cross, that looks very much like it is modelled on the Iron Cross used by Prussia & Germany 1871-1918 and Hitler's Nazi regime from 1933-45

odd trend for bands to do really cool videos at the moment where they go absolutely wild in the costume department and pair that with super exciting, interesting visuals

and then have an accompanying press kit of photos of them looking bored, stood against a wall in t-shirts and jeans

Ah but can you put a price on being able to freely sexually assault your staff?
this is a five alarm Fucking With The Money fire and between this and the Greenland threats the rich assholes might want to wake up and realize this dude is going to cost them way more than any wealth tax will

Depressing but you have to actually say thank fuck that we as a species got as far as we did before “experts say x but some well financed evil maniacs say y, whose to say? 🤷‍♂️” became the default position via which everything must be considered

I mean, imagine trying to ban smoking in bars etc now
California now requires corn masa flour to contain folic acid to reduce birth defects among Latinos. Public health officials have lauded these efforts, but some conservatives say it’s another form of government overreach.
California is adding a supplement to tortillas. RFK Jr. calls it ‘insanity’.

Book 2 of the year read. John Higgs story of Doctor Who, Exterminate! Regenerate!

Very much enjoyed this. Kind of 2 books in one really, one is a more straightforward retelling of the series history, loads of fun details, anecdotes and the like to chew over, good stuff if you’re interested in that

Looking at the original setup of the cinema I used to go to & these pics are amazing. I can 100% say if cinemas were still designed to resemble Moorish inspired medieval Spanish courtyards I’d go more often

Amazing vibe, though trying to think of the most incongruous film for a setting like this
Odeon Richmond, Richmond
The Odeon Richmond is an Atmospheric theatre with a Spanish Courtyard theme, opened in 1930 in Richmond, England, UK.

“We’ve heard from people on the street that don’t want to be killed by masked thugs & I’ve had emails from friends that want those people to be killed, as a little treat. It’s not for me, a reporter on a news channel, to say who is right but i can say we should stop calling my friends bad names, ok”

fair play to the producers though. after the Celebrity version I thought the new, normal, series would be a bit after the lord mayor's show, but whoever found Fiona deserves a pay rise

only concern now though is it's peaked far too early, not sure how they can sustain this level for another 2 weeks
Why does it seem like every contestant on The Traitors has never watched The Traitors before? They think people acting "suspiciously" before the Traitors were picked means they're Traitors. They think people knowing each other outside of the game means they're Traitors. They don't get how it works.

calling it now. within 18, maybe 12, months there will be a US regime backed anti-pope installed somewhere like Las Vegas
Editorial in the National Catholic Reporter: "The vice president's comments justifying the death of Renee Good are a moral stain on the collective witness of our Catholic faith. His repeated attempts to blame Good for her own death are fundamentally incompatible with the Gospel."
Catholic Vice President Vance takes to social media to justify killing of Renee Good

Mashad isn't just the second-largest city. It is supposed to be the conservative city most loyal to the regime. Home to shrines. Birthplace of Khamenei, declared "the spiritual capital" by Achmedinijad and the fanatical religious hardliners.

This is a watershed moment.
Seems like a real revolt when in Iran's second largest city Mashhad, protesters can lower the flag of the Islamic Republic on one of the city's public flagpoles, and then tear the flag into shreds.

Without any Iranian police or military intervention.

Hard not to escape the feeling that if one of the younger, more centrist & established Dems broke left, went full fire & brimstone, promised to absolutely raise the Republican party to the ground, destroy the billionaire class & salt the earth, they’d have a lock on the party for the next few years
