Hot take: having an incoherent septuagenarian scream-lecture America like a man arguing with a self-checkout machine that keeps yelling “unexpected item in the bagging area” might not actually be the emotional support animal we need right now.

Unexpected item in bagging area
Because the most interesting thing you're ever going to hear in a self-checkout is "Unexpected item in bagging area.”

In light of Sarah Kendzior being suspended from this site, I want to share one of their recent news letters- it reads like poetry, to me. Sarah has a way with words and always hits the nail on the head. I encourage you to read the following or any of their work

Hello @support.bsky.team

I heard from Sarah Kendzior @sarahkendzior.bsky.social that her account was suspended.

Can you please look into this and reinstate her account? She’s a published author and scholar on authoritarianism. Her presence here is valuable.

Armistice Day, 1918
Veteran’s Day in the US is Remembrance Day in the UK and Commonwealth member nations. Both holidays originated as Armistice Day, remembering November 11th, 1918, when the armistice ending hostilities in the Great War was signed.

"there are no longer any Black women working at Teen Vogue."
thank you for all the support; the statement from our union is now live here with some more reporting.

now that this is public I can confirm that the majority of today’s layoffs were women of color. there are no longer any Black women working at Teen Vogue.

For any unfamiliar with the quality of journalism at Teen Vogue, it's well known for hard-hitting stories on "politically sensitive" topics including climate.

Then there's CBS: the only major network to increase climate coverage in the last few years. They just axed nearly their whole climate team.
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

So far, the administration's Alaska agenda is still a lot of bluster and not a lot of action. Great reporting from @loisparshley.bsky.social for @grist.org
Trump officials say Alaska is 'open for business.' So far, no one's buying.
The administration wants to drill in Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Oil companies don’t, leaving Alaska to spend millions propping up the idea.

It's tempting to think that none of this makes sense.
@sarahkendzior.bsky.social shows us that it makes complete sense. We just have to shift our frame of reference from governance to organized crime.

Inventing Antifa
In 2005, the Uzbek government invented a group called “Akromiya” to justify massacring protesters. Now I worry the US government will do the same.
