I’m not one for false optimism: we’re in for some tough times. Everything won’t be OK just because we hope it will be. It will be OK if we *fight* for it to be.

Take care of yourself; watch over your neighbor; protect the vulnerable and marginalized; and never give up.

Can’t make a Tomlette without breaking some Greggs
‼️‼️‼️‼️ Per reporters on scene, Leigh Wambsganss has shut down her party. She hasn't conceded to Taylor Rehmet yet, but apparently told supporters that “we’ll be back in November.”
Hard to overstate how big a deal a Rehmet win would be. Tarrant County is the epicenter of Christian nationalism in Texas, an incubator for far-right policies, and nexus of billionaire Tim Dunn's network, which is riding hard for Wambsganss. Rehmet almost entirely funded by donations of $100 or less

READ. THIS. ORDER.

“Civics lesson to the government: Administrative warrants issued by the executive branch to itself do not pass probable cause muster. That is called the fox guarding the henhouse. The Constitution requires an independent judicial officer.”

Since 2022, I’ve been working to try to overturn Tennessee's felony disenfranchisement regime permanently denying the right to vote to thousands of Tennesseans. Last week, my co-counsel at Arnold & Porter and I traveled to Memphis for trial.

Day 1 of our trial challenging felony disenfranchisement in Tennessee is complete! Some really excellent testimony from our expert, Dr. Pippa Holloway, the preeminent historian of felony disenfranchisement in the South.

Fantastic thread about Nashville history, German influence, the Civil War, Reconstruction, the KKK, and more.

The more I learn about Tennessee legal and constitutional history in the 1800s the more fascinated I become.
Did y'all know that Nashville had TWO German-language newspapers there for a while?

Though relatively short-lived, I've found them to be pretty important when it comes to Tennessee's Black history.

This is absolutely fantastic — read it right now.

In short: We are going to win, but it’s going to hurt. We have an enormous task ahead of us, and we need a new generation of Reconstruction elected officials who are willing to build a new, more just and equitable democracy.
The past year has been terrifying. Really, the past two—I lost a lot of sleep in 2024 over the promises of the Trump campaign, promises they immediately sought to make good on. But at the end of the first year of his would-be dictatorship, I am calling it: we are going to win.
We Are Going to Win
Trump's revolution will fail, but we still have a long and painful road ahead of us.

What a surprise. The guy that said that the DOJ should defy court orders so he could demonstrate his own lawless loyalty to Trump… has no ethics as a judge. This guy never should’ve been confirmed, and shouldn’t be a judge, period.

Why is the FTC case important? Why does it matter whether Trump can fire the the heads of independent agencies like the FTC, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), and the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC)?
