U Glasgow has covered Jay Todd's @jaytoddgla.bsky.social & my critical paper on the 'Sullivan Review' rgs-ibg.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

Many social scientists whom Jay & I talk to are (still) unaware of the Sullivan Review and its potential implications. Our paper aims to change this
Recommendations from the Sullivan Review could undermine the quality of public institutions’ research, erode academic freedom, and threaten the rights of trans and gender diverse people if widely adopted, @uofgges.bsky.social researchers have warned.

See my thesis for research evidence of why a social media ban would be terrible for LGBTQIA youth.

TLDR- when you belong to a geographically dispersed minority that your family don’t belong to, might even be hostile to- social media is likely your only lifeline for identity work and community.
My PhD thesis “Waving and Drowning: UK Trans Youth Experiences of Social Media Affective Publics” is now available online.
It features a model of the emotional cycle of doomscrolling that I’m particularly proud of.

^ As long as fixed-term contracts (FTC's) are the norm for early-career scholars + many others, then our workplaces are structurally screwing us.

On Tuesday, the Israeli military invaded Birzeit University, attacking students with live ammunition.

Israel's scholasticide is a core part of its attempt to obliterate the collective life of the Palestinian people.
